s'Wirtshaus am See Friedrichshafen — Restaurant in Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Friedrichshafen

Read some good things about this restaurant and decided to take the ferry over for my birthday brunch. We arrived early for a Sunday morning (just after 9) and were surprised to see that all the tables by the water were reserved. This surprised us because the website clearly states that no reservations can be made for outdoor seating ("Leider können wir keine Reservierungen für unseren Biergarten entgegennehmen"). If this hadn't been written so clearly, obviously we would have called and made a reservation- this seemed a little unfair. But we got a nice spot in the shade and were happy - until our server arrived. I am usually more diplomatic in my language but there is no diplomatic way of putting this. The server stinked. He smelled so bad that my appetite was gone quickly and we smelled him every time he passed or approached our table. All three of us preferred not to order a second round of coffeeso as not to have him come near to our table. I am extremely perplexed how this can happen in a gastronomic business. Unfortunately the breakfast buffet was not great to begin with (not appetizing in it's appearance, acceptable amount of selection, platters left almost empty by the staff, tomato-mozzarella salad without any seasoning, tomatoes were watery and had no taste, ...). Also missed having soy milk/similar option for people with allergies/intolerance - I appreciate that most cafes in Germany have this option! I do not write reviews for many places - mostly when I was very pleased or very disappointed- in this case I am shocked! The servers scent made the entire restaurant feel highly...

The place was located nicely on the shore. Due to vacation time place was packed. We waited a bit too her a board. Good and professional service and broad menu with different German specialities. Our food tasted good and recommended wine was satisfactory. So far so good. Then we asked to pay and without getting a bill we paid by card the asked amount. After quick calculation we noticed the paid sum doesn't match with what we ate. When asking explanation, waiter blushed in face and explained "service surcharge". Then I asked if it's stated on the menu that they have service surcharge and got a reply that "no, but all the other customers are happy with that". Then I asked to see the bill and after getting it, noticed a 10€ extra, which with our orders maid about 15%. I asked again, why 10€ and why weren't we informed about it. We might have as well tipped voluntarily. The the waiter got semi-aggressive and asked if we want the 10€ back if we weren't satisfied. I answered that I was very satisfied, until they spiced our bill. So this kind of place. Food is good, but very low integrity of service....

We went to this restaurant and chose a table outside, close to the sea, on a day with possibility of rain. We had decided to have our dinner quite early and one of the dishes we wished to have would only be available after an hour. But the waiter allowed us to sit outside, have some drinks, and stay until the kitchen was opened. It started to rain as the food was becoming ready. The waiter had reserved another table inside the restaurant just in case it would rain. This was highly appreciated as we had not asked him to do so. He went the extra mile to make us happy.
