Not really one of my favorite places, but defintely a place to go if you're looking for connecting with your local African dishes, or you're a tourist wanting to try Ghanaian food.
I used to be a customer that would be come yearly to this restaurant. I wouldn't say the dishes are finger-licking... they're acceptable; not bad. Which is why I was alarmed when I heard the recent spike in price per person for the buffet. I do not think I have the rights to mention the price on this platform, but let's just say the food, OUR local food made from ingredients IN this country , shouldn't cost that much. Even Haajia's chop bar at the junction has better tasting meals that I can buy for less than 50 cedis.
Sure, buffet is a perpetual buying of meals until the customer is satisfied, but if research is done, it takes at least 2-3 meals here until the average person is satisfied. I do not think the total of that price will reach the buffet pricing.
On the contrary, I think the interior design and service of Azmera is fine. The little space isn't so bad, with the music, natural lighting and local Ghanaian feel to the shop. I can really appreciate that.
Azmera is more like a fancy chop bar for Ghanaians, but for tourists it's a place to taste local food. I honestly appreciate the fact people have to wear gloves to serve their food at the buffet. Hygiene is important.
However, I want to talk about another thing that irks me in this restaurant. The plastic use. Whenever you eat at Azmera, there are always spoons, forks and knives on the tables before you start dining. Given the scratches on the cutlery, you know it is used, and that's okay. It's just quite alarming that there's always plastic wrapped around the cutlery on every empty table, plastic wrapped spoons given to you when you're done eating, And the new plastic glove rule just made me grovel. It wouldn't hurt if the restaurant was climate-change aware and started using biodegradable paper (paper that can break down) for gloves or wrappers for cutlery. Here's a little note: plastic cannot break down for more than a hundred years, and it's pollution clogs our water bodies, causing floods, kills our fish, and so much more. If you watch the news alot, you'd see how Ghana struggles with this.
I do not want to imagine where all the plastic goes when someone tears it off the spoon, or when the waiter takes the worn plastic glove on the table. It would be relieving to hear if you actually re-use the plastic.
Azmera, Ghana's water pollution levels are over the top, along with air pollution too. Something our motherland would appreciate, and I too, is to move on from the excessive plastic use for cutlery and gloves, to using biodegradable paper. Overall, this is a great restaurant with a variety of local foods and dishes. You should try it if you're new to...
Read moreI went to Azmera on December 16th 2019 for the first time. My friend and I thought we could order food but were told we had an option of a buffet lunch for 150 Ghana. Considering the exact food we wanted wasn’t available we decided reluctantly to go with the buffet. The food tasted great but Ghanaian dishes are heavy and with a buffet type setting it’s impossible to eat much. Our waitress informed us that on sundays they served the particular food we wanted (tuo zaafi) and we should return. Today, January 5th 2020, we did just that only to find out that 1. It was still a buffet that incorporated tuo zaafi and that we wouldn’t be able to order. Once again we decided to stay having driven 40 mins just to get to the restaurant it would’ve been a huge inconvenience to leave and look for another spot. This is where the 1 star rating comes into play. It was only after we finished eating that we were given a bill - which stated that the price was 200 Ghana PER person. Clearly this had to be an error because just two weeks ago we paid 150 and there was no sign detailing any price change. I voiced my disappointment in this deception to the waiter who in all honesty did nothing to appease the situation. He agreed the restaurant was wrong, he acknowledged his staff had failed to give us the information of the price change yet still insisted on making us pay the price of 200 Ghana. I Do not understand why this restaurant thinks it’s good ethical policy to change food prices without blatant signs or even allowing their servers to tell customers of the price change prior to rating. That coupled with the fact that it’s a by force buffet setting I will not be returning to azmera and will advise others to find other restaurants in the city of Accra who are honest and customer service oriented. Do...
Read moreAfter recommending this restaurant for takeaway and dine in to my many I decided to treat myself yesterday. I called at 3.50 pm 27/9/2020 and asked specifically if I could get charcoal grilled chicken and the response was positive. I went on to ask the quality for 74 cedis and then I was told it would be a good quality,so I said I would like a leafy salad with out carrots and cream. 30 minutes later the dispatch arrived with every dry 3 pieces chicken and definitely not charcoal grilled, accompanied buy a Ghana salad with cream and beans?!! I called to complain and was informed there was an error, but I felt 114 cedis for this meal was a total rip off. I told the lady I want a refund and she agreed that the rider would return for the refund to be done. 10 mins later she called and said the chef can start grilling chicken for me if I want to add to what I received, so I said no let's stick to my request of a refund.
From that time on I was calling hourly to check how long it would be for a dispatch to bring my money and I would have to tell the story over and over imagine how annoying. I was calm and hopeful someone would bring my money. At 9. 39pm was told someone would bring it to me first thing in the morning.
It's 11.13 am I have just got off the phone with a gentleman who said he would do the refund for me but I should come for my money. Mind you I called them. If it was an order it would be delivered but for an unhappy customer they don't have the courtesy to send a rider.
I must say I am very disappointed with the service of this restaurant that wins so many awards.... Now the question is are their...
