It was all excitement as it was my first time going to eat at Brasa, a place I have heard off and seen numerous pictures online, till I entered with my canon camera. I'm not a photographer, just photo enthusiast, a waiter/manager said I can't take pictures especially with my flash. I asked "so smartphones with flash can take pictures"?
He replied, "an mp or big man with his side chic may come in the picture "? ( so now they condone infidelity smh)
I asked again that," the mp/bigman can't come in the shot if the picture is taken with a smartphone "?
How were we taking pictures in restaurants before snartphones???
He said it is their policy, mind you, it is not written on their Google page or no notice is on any part of the restaurant premises. If pictures taken with cameras are such a big deal, cause a bigman/mp may come in, you should put it up, and not come and harass anyone holding a camera
Last turn off was, we came around 7pm, the music was volume was just ok, one could talk without having to shout. Suddenly from 8.30 pm onwards, the music became so loud, one had to shout to have a simple convo. We told to kindly reduce it, they would reduce it, then make it loud again 4 minutes later, so that was a turn off. We eventually to stand outside to get a few 10 minutes of talking before departing.
The food was good and our waiter was good, but that verbal no camera policy and playing loud music was a turn off. If you want to celebrate an event and want nice camera pictures (not smartphone), I won't encourage you to do it there.
I hardly give a...
Read moreIn search of a high end restaurant in Accra that still cooked (semi) African food we (two cooks from Amsterdam) decided to try Brasa. The building was very clean, luxurious and was heavily airconditioned. The service was the best we’ve had in Accra by far (note that this was the first high end restaurant we attended in Accra). All traditional rules of service were followed and the waitress was very professional and kind. We ate three delicious courses that were all very nice. The cauliflower we had as one of our starters did feel a bit bland (especially in comparison with the heavily spiced foods in the rest of Ghana). The prawns were delicious though. The presentation of the dishes was the best we’ve had so far (again take note that this was the most expensive place we’ve eaten so far). However the cauliflower and the brownies we had for desert could have had a garnish to finish them off. Overall we did have a very nice experience at this restaurant with the service and venue as highlights. The food was very good too, but some dishes lacked the finishing touches on presentation. We spent ~1400 cedi for two people including a three course meal, two cocktails and a bottle of wine. This is expensive in comparison to the rest of Accra and the prices on the menu were excluding tax and service fees meaning the final bill was 32% more expensive. Taking this into account our overall experience was still very nice with a good bang for your buck. We’d definitely recommend this place to any cooks in Accra looking for a nice...
Read moreI am an avid amateur food lover and home cook. I've traveled extensively over the United States, Europe and Asia. Generally speaking, the vast number of restaurants I visit are disappointing. Either the food or the service or both are lacking. There is this sense that you could have done better cooking at home.
Now let's go to Accra, Ghana. I have been coming here for a project four times a year since 2019. I love Ghana but no one would every confuse this as a Mecca of customer service or internationally quality food.
This is why I have been blown away with my experience at Brasa. The food, the wine choices, the service, are all as good as any place of its price range as I have experienced. I want to give one small example, their signature roast chicken. Any cook knows the difficulty in getting white meat to be juicy and flavorful , especially when cooked together and roasted. I ordered the half of roast chicken. I ate a bit of white meat figuring to get the dry part over with. I was stunned when the mouthful was moist and full of flavor. I suspect it had been brined, and yet, the meat itself was firm, with good texture.
I have more trips to Accra in the future. It is nice to know there Barsa to rely on when I want a good...
