When we sat the waiter gave us a bottle of water; we asked if it was complimentary and he said yes. Then another waitress took our order, after which she asked if we wanted pita bread with it. We said yes. Then the bill came. They were charging us for both the water and 2 orders of bread; we asked the waitress to clarify and said that her colleague didn't speak English, that it turns out that water isn't free after all. We mentioned we didn't actually order it though, and then, in a very negative attitude, she complained that she's tired of people (her colleagues) not speaking English. Then when we asked about they charging for the pita, she said that she asked us and we said yes (which we did, thinking it was complimentary as I'd never heard of a place where they charge for bread for the table...). In any case, we accepted it as our mistake as the pita was actually on their menu. However when we asked her why she was charging us for two, she said it was because we were 2 people and me and my partner had both agreed to having the pita. She said that in Greece we had to specify exactly what we want in our order to avoid these situations every time we order. Nonetheless, we were in Greece for over 10 days this time around, and we've visited in the past, and we have NEVER had to deal with anything like this. Thus I think she's referring to her restaurant specifically, considering they're located right next to the harbour. Overall, this restaurant is a tourist trap and if you're not careful they will take advantage of you. Avoid...
Read moreWe’re on our honeymoon in Greece and we’ve been to Athens & Santorini, but our dinner here at Alki’s takes the cake. Before discovering Alki’s, my husband and I were waiting for another restaurant. With zero recognition, I told my husband to wait in line as I look around and see if there are better restaurants that would be more eager to take us in. Immediately, Abi at Alki’s saw me reading over their menu and he kindly greeted me and listed off some of their top meals. I turned around to wave my husband over because clearly this was a better fit. Abi showed us the fresh fish they had just caught that day… suggested a wine pairing… chef’s kiss it was the best meal and wine I’ve had on our entire trip — and let me tell you: we’ve had some deliciously expensive meals and been wine tasting in Santorini. Our waiter at Alki’s cut the fish off the bones in front of us, which was such a cool experience to watch. Abi was such a kind and professional guy! We adored him. Alki’s is 10/10 and we’d...
