This is a family run taverna and the food is "home cooking". Nothing fancy but certainly tasty (for the most part), neatly presented, freshly prepared and reasonably priced.
We ate in here two or three times and had takeaways three times if that proves we were very happy there.
We were always attended to by Dimitrios the son. What a lovely, lovely guy. So genuinely helpful, always smiling, friendly, engaging...he is a wonderful young man.
When first ordering we explained that one of our kids was a coeliac and in consultation with "Mama" they were always able to make recommendations or adaptions. For the record, their chips are not GF.
Anyway, we have had Chicken Gyros and Souvlaki as take-aways. When seated for dining in the restaurant, Dimitrios would flit around serving everyone and even though things were never quick, we were never forgotten nor made to wait an inordinate amount of time. Just relax and sit in the calming atmosphere listening to the background music.
There is an outdoor dining area of back but this was not being used by the time we arrived on the island.
We have ordered fried zucchini (courgettes) (tasty) grilled chicken (perfect), Souvlaki (perfect), Beef Stifado (delicious and tender), lamb chops (I think cooked well done instead of medium rare but tasty nonetheless), a Beef Sofigado (not our favourite) and really the only disappointments were the two fish dishes we tried - The cod fish with garlic mashed potatoes where the potato was amazing but the fish (cubes) was overcooked and salty whilst the fried sole fillet was actually stripped off the bone and coated with batter and was again overcooked and salty.
That being said, overall we were very happy with the VFM and the general quality and cleanliness and of course the fantastic service.
Finally, the baklava was HUGE (couldn't finish mine), different to others we have had and well worth the price...
Read moreWorst meal I’ve ever had on Kefalonia. Been coming to the island for 20 years. Food took ages to arrive even though 20% capacity and was cold. The main meal was supposed to be a Kefalonia special, cod in a filo pastry. Was soggy and no cod!. Others in my party had similar experience. Only thing that was ok was the Mythos. Nearly forgot the child waiters and finally, even the skinny cat didn’t like the pie.
UPDATE: having just read the owners reply I should add this: (1) at no point did anyone ask if our meal was ok. (2) when the boy (aged about 10) took our plates he did not comment on the fact I had hardly eaten my food. (3) when I asked for the bill the grumpy woman just put the invoice on the table, no freebies like watermelon we get at every other restaurants. (4) when the slightly more presentable lady come out with the credit card machine, she was on her mobile talking Greek to a friend, she handed me the machine and went off leaving me to print the receipt etc. Never really got a chance to complain because the staff/owners didn’t give a toss whether we liked our meal or not. (5) it really takes VERY BAD SERVICE for me to complain, that’s how...
