Ta Pitharia Tavern — Restaurant in Argostoli Municipality

We came for dinner, and judging by the number of guests, we assumed the food must be good at this restaurant. We ordered a variety of dishes — shrimp, zucchini, moussaka, shellfish, Greek salad, and finally, dessert.

The food ranged from impressive to disappointing. The shrimp was truly excellent and deserves praise. The chocolate soufflé, on the other hand, tasted like it was made by a beginner. The shellfish in white wine sauce were great, while the moussaka was just average.

However, the biggest issue was that the kitchen clearly couldn’t handle the number of guests that evening. We waited far too long for our food, and what was listed as a starter arrived at the same time as the main courses. The waiter was overwhelmed and in chaos — understandably due to the crowd — but unfortunately, that led to a lack of attention and zero friendliness. Smiles and basic hospitality were completely missing.

For the first time ever, I didn’t leave a tip — not out of spite, but because it truly didn’t feel deserved. The whole experience felt like eating at a fast-food place — except everything was “fast” except the preparation of food.

We were really looking forward to our meal, but unfortunately the experience didn’t meet expectations.

Despite asking for a few more minutes to decide on our order, we were approached by multiple waiters one by one asking for our order which felt disorganised and rushed, it was a confusing and uncomfortable start to the meal as it felt like the Spanish Inquisition.

The pork gyros were dry and came with only the smallest amount of tzatziki, two tomatoes and five pieces of red onion.. overall it was dry and bland. My partner had the chicken in a creamy pepper sauce, which didn’t come with everything described on the menu, and overall, the dish wasn’t very impressive either.

We would have asked for more sauce or an alternative for our meals, but it was difficult to get the attention of the staff, who seemed more focused on chatting amongst themselves than checking on tables.

To add to the awkwardness, several members of the staff stood right by our table for most of the time chatting whilst we were eating.

Overall, the food was underwhelming and the service made it difficult to relax. It’s not somewhere we’d be in a hurry...

My friend had vegetarian moussaka it was bland, tasteless, luke warm, it stated veg mince which was absent. It looked like a bowl of mush. I had lamb shank I asked what it came with the waiter said mash I asked if I could swap mash for roasted potatoes to say he was displeased is an understatement. The lamb was awful no seasoning at all potatoes were past luke warm the onions were very peppery. The presentation looked if the lamb and potatoes were thrown on the plate which was cold. The staff were not a happy bunch, they were untidy, a member of the staff were smoking just outside of the restaurant. No member of staff did a check back to see if we were enjoying our meal. Overall I would not recommend this restaurant even if it was the only restaurant open. No staff asked if we would like a desert or a coffee ect. The chef came out and sat at one of the tables in side of the restaurant and started, to vape, another member of staff left the restaurant and reappeared with a dog in tow.
