The hotel was spotless. Great sized rooms which were cleaned every day. Nice balcony with 2 chairs and a table. Lots of sockets by the bed and the mirror.|There was a hairdryer in the bathroom as well as shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Air con in the bedroom and insect nets on the patio doors and bathroom window. TV in the room but we didn't use it. There's a safe in the wardrobe and a mini fridge. Lots of storage.|The inclusive breakfast had lots on offer - Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, nuts, through to bacon, eggs sausages and plenty of breads and pastries.|Pool was a great size. All the beds were taken when we arrived so we headed to the beach (15 Euros for 2 beds and a brolly with 2 bottles of water). Bar service to your sunbed and a range of lunches/snacks on offer. Large beer 5 Euros, cocktails were around 9. Cans of coke 3.50. Lots of beds available.|The hotel pool had sunbeds and brollies - unfortunately there were quite a few folk getting up at the crack of dawn to reserve their spot for the day. When we arrived, after breakfast, at 8.30/9am there were quite often only 2 or 3 sets of beds available even though we were often the only people there. The hotel did put a note up advising that they would move towels etc if the beds were not occupied. I hope that they keep to their word on this. Beach towels can be borrowed for a refundable 10 Euro deposit.|The hotel has a great location, right by the beach and a really short walk from a good selection of restaurants and cocktail bars that overlook the sea (happy hour(s) 7 Euro cocktails from 6 - 8.30ish). Close also to car hire offices (hotel has parking on site), a taxi rank and a number of supermarkets.|I'm really happy that we chose Skala and the Makis Hotel. It was a great, relaxing, few days away.|We travelled in July - before the UK school...
Read moreOk, not one to moan, but; Awful breakfast choice - plain, bland & boring. Everyone queuing for a fried egg before queuing to use the toaster! Really? Is this what I’ve paid for? Bed & Breakfast? Absolutely joke. A real nasty continental breakfast. We paid to eat out nearly every morning. Note to Makis Hotel: Use a bigger frying pan & rest the eggs on hot plate if need to, but don’t have people fighting over a cold egg. Everything looks outdated at the Makis Hotel as well. Looks fantastic from the outside, but when you go in, it’s dark wood interior, yellow walls & pictures hanging up depicting scenes from the 1970’s, do make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Beds are the worst... ever! For somebody with a back problem, it nearly ruined my 2 week holiday, due to sleep deprivation & aggravated back issues. Hey, & don’t start me on the lack of hygiene! No mattress protectors & bed sheets that have no elasticated corners, so come away from the bed as soon as you roll over. I would lie there in pain, unable to sleep on a bare mattress, thinking of everyone else who’d done the same. Disgusting. Free use of WIFI, safe & fridge! Brilliant! Something positive! But hang on; if I store milk in my fridge, where’s the kettle, or coffee & tea making facilities? Basically, there aren’t any, so if you like a coffee or tea to set you up in the morning, you have to go up stairs to the breakfast room where pensioners are now rioting over the lack of eggs - or, purchase a small kettle! Hundreds of ants all over tiled floor every day (ground floor 202). Cleaning of room was sub-standard - bins not emptied & no clean towels left. I could go on & on... It’s close to the sea, but for that reason alone, I won’t be staying at the Makis...
Read moreOur only bad experience in Kefalonia was at this hotel. When everything goes well, I assume you'll leave with a positive experience, but when something goes wrong, you'll find yourself thrown out into the street and forced to pay the full price: there was a blockage in the shower and the room was flooded, we had to leave the room without a solution because there was no alternative room, a helpless young receptionist was the only one there and didn't succeed take care of us, the hotel manager is a rude woman who lacks any sense of service, to make a long story short, I strongly recommend avoiding the place
ps I saw your incorrect response, it wasn't the sink that was clogged but the shower and the boy at the reception couldn't fix it for hours both because he was busy at the reception and because he didn't know, so you didn't have a solution and you didn't agree that we would stay crowded in our friends' room, at 23.00 suddenly another room became available which you probably tried to sell in order to maximize profits and then you demanded that we move to it - again to carry the luggage up the stairs without an elevator at such a late hour, and all in a condescending and condescending attitude. Money is probably everything with you - before the customers - so I suggest to the guests to skip and find a...
