Trattoria Italia D'onofrio — Restaurant in Athens

The food was mediocre. We ordered two pizzas and three pasta plates. The pizza crust was nice but the taste was really nothing special. The pasta was over cooked and tasteless except the amatriziana which was really nice. The service was very fast but the chef who came to take our order was not accommodating in small changes we asked for in our orders. Overall, I think the reviews we read and the actual food were vastly different and not in a good way. Adding this the next day to reply to the comment the restaurant left today: Although I appreciate the chefs prerogative to not alter their dishes because they strive for their particular expression of a traditional dish nonetheless, I think that refusing to change his dishes the chef could be less absolute and abrupt and more polite and explanatory of why he won’t alter his dishes for you. There is a huge difference in being cordial and showing you value your customer enough than plainly and stiffly refusing. Anyway, at least that is my opinion and it doesn’t have...

When we finished our dining I asked the waiter for the bill and he told the price. I told him that I would like to pay with my debit card and then he responded that I had to pay at the entrance downstairs. So I did, when I left but the great disappointment was when I realized that the guy at the entrance charged me 1 euro more than the price the waiter told me. Of course, it wasn't the 1 euro, rather than the sense of cheating I hated most. Apart from this disappointing fact, the food is mediocre. Gnochi are badly cooked because they stuck in our teeth. The oil truffle in pasta con gorgoncolla had a strange smell, while my carbonara was watery. The beef fillets were the worst plate we ordered and polenta was like eating a shoe sole. What a hidden little gem! We visited the restaurant on Jan 22nd 2022, a party of two people. It is located in a small alley in Pagrati. The restaurant is very picturesque and I really liked the ambience.

Please note that they use their own type of pasta which is hand made in house. We ordered:

1. Vitello tonnato: A tasty dish but the veal was a little chewy. I enjoyed it nonetheless
2. Carbonara: I really really really liked it. Pasta cooked to perfection and I wish I had ordered a second portion!
3. Meatballs: Again the pasta was cooked to perfection but I would expect the meatballs to be tastier
4. Gorgonzola with pear: Once again a sublime dish! Also enjoyed it a lot!

The above, along with some house wine come with a very reasonable price tag. I am only awarding 4 stars because of the small things I did not love mentioned above (but still a great experience). I will definitely...
