Fornello — Restaurant in Ithaca Municipality

The store owner is possibly the most rude person i’ve encountered in a long time. I ordered take out breakfast for 4 people. After patiently waiting for 20’ (i knew the time because i made a call right after the order), i asked if it was ready. The guy told me it needed another 20’. I argued that it sounds a bit long. Then he responded that he had a lot of orders from people sitting out. When i told him that he should have told me the take-out order was going to be 40’ , he turned into an aggressive and very very rude person. I actually took off without the order, although i paid almost 50€ for it. People like this should not be allowed to have retail businesses. Completely unprofessional.

Edit: I need to clarify things after the owner’s response. First of all there were zero customers inside the store so it is impossible to have witnesses of what he told me. I imagine the witnesses you refer to are his fellow employees who, surprisingly, took his side. Also the waiter who, unlike the rude guy at the bar, was a very kind young man, tried to defuse the situation and apologised. I guess he was not a witness?

Regarding the facts you claim: I was never told how long it will take. I kindly asked when it would be ready, after having waited a full 20’. The person’s response was that it would be another 20’. When i said it’s been 20’ already he said “no it’s not”. That is the most absurd answer ever. He then told me he didn’t like my attitude!? I hadn’t said anything rude to him and was very surprised! And then when i asked if he is serious he said “yeah i’m serious, and you need to get lessons in how to behave”. If that is normal to you, then you deserve such employees. I was rude to him after he was extremely rude to me and started insulting me on a personal level.

I have to point out that your response is equally unprofessional. When you get a negative review and you respond like that it looks bad. Rest assured. I also checked past reviews and saw that this has happened before, and somebody thought the owner was very rude. See...

We loved this place. It doesn't have a lot of tables but there are some on the seaside. We ate breakfast sandwiches and had coffee in the morning (our favorite coffee that we tried on the island).
