Bakalis Restaurant — Restaurant in Kassandra Municipality

We had seafood and fish here and everything was fresh (the calamari was soft, easily chewable and very tasty; the red mullet was sweet and flavorful). Because the sun was setting and we were having dinner very close to the sea, the view was romantic, even though we were surrounded by tables full of people (families, couples, groups of friends). The waiters and bartenders are fast, attentive and funny, so they help you to get in the holiday mood, making sure you have everything you need. We had a nice experience here three years ago, but we were quite disappointed this time around.

For starters, we were brought a few slices of regular bread and a water bottle, but all three glasses were quite dirty, so we had to ask one of the waiters to bring us new ones.

The pork steak lacked salt and was a bit undercooked, whereas the cuttlefish risotto was a bit oversalted, even for someone like myself who enjoys salty food (but you can argue that is just a matter of taste). The exotic salad was... fine, quite sweet.

What really soured everything at the end was that, not only were we charged for the water and bread (that we were brought even before the menus!), but that - for just five slices of regular white bread (not even toasted or anything) we were charged 4 euros! More than two bottles of water worth for a few slices of bread seems quite absurd,...

We reserved a table for four people, for 22:00, upon arrival, at 21:56, we were told to “give them some time” because there was no table that was “reserved”. After waiting for 10-ish minutes, we were placed at a table that was just emptied. We waited for 15-ish minutes just to be given menus and a complimentary bottle of water. After that we received no more service from the staff members. After 30 minutes of waiting for a waiter to take our order, we decided to leave.

We get it, it is the middle of the summer season. Restaurants are busy while being understaffed, but at Bakalis waiters were walking around mindlessly without attending the tables at all.
