Let me tell you, the only thing that would make our Hanioti days more than perfect is if we found Nick's Saloon earlier. But it was on day before our last day of vacation, so that was the only time we went there. The place itself is cozy, home-like, pleasant.. A place where friends and neighbors come to enjoy, and it's run by Nick, who does all the preparing and cooking, and his daughter. Their hospitality is just beautiful. We ordered moussaka, chicken with bacon, zucchini and cheese (al forno) and burger. With couple of beers and juice we got pita bread and tzatziki for a snack. When the food came out and we start eating it, we just looked each other, quietly in disbelief of how amazing it was. The chicken was tasty and tender, just melting in mouth, burger fresh, juicy, seasoned perfectly and moussaka baked just how it should be, not undercooked and not mushy, made with care, fantastic. But when the bill came, that was a real shock. I even went back from the half way to apartment to ask if they missed to charge me something. Nick came smiling from kitchen and said "You can't believe it, can you?". To tell you the truth, for that diner and service and hospitality i would pay three times more than it was, without questioning. Now, i've been a chef for 12 years, and a cook for more than 20 and i can tell you, when it comes to" simple food" menu, there is no chef or top chef in the kitchen. Nick, is top chef. So, if you are tired of overcomplicated menus, pointless decorations, conveyer type of service, and you just want a delicious meal, come to Nick's Saloon. A place where you are a guest, and not a number. Place where chefs come to get...
Read moreI've been coming to Chaniotis for the past five years, and this place has become a must-visit every time. It never fails to deliver — the atmosphere is always warm and welcoming, the food and drinks are consistently great, and the prices are fair and reasonable.
Some of the negative reviews seem to come from people expecting fine dining — but this isn’t a Michelin-starred restaurant, nor does it claim to be. What you do get is delicious, well-prepared food, friendly service, and a relaxed, authentic experience that fits perfectly with the charm of Chaniotis.
One of the events worth mentioning is the so called Greek night, where you might be lucky enough to enjoy traditional music, a lively atmosphere, and even the classic Greek custom of plate smashing — all part of the fun and celebration.
Every visit here has been a pleasure, and I’ll definitely keep coming back in the years to come. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a genuine and enjoyable dining experience in Chaniotis.
PS: I haven't been here this year but I'm looking forward to it. The reason I wrote is because the negative reviews...
