Maraboo Beach — Restaurant in Lefkada Municipality

A strange experience. Walked in with my partner and her teenager son. I thought we looked ok. We were ready for a nice coffee and hopefully some desert. Sat on a table and waited admiring the elegant (uniform) outfits of the waiters. They walked by our table in several ways (holding glasses, water bottles, wine, nothing, etc.). It looked like each one of them had a particular, very well-defined task, but nobody seemed to have the "good afternoon, may I help?" one. Nor the menú and welcome one. Once or twice the apparently more senior seemed to observe us veeeery discretely. I like to observe people in this kind of service. It is somehow related to my job. I could not figure out what was their problem or their objective. It was not to serve us, for sure. There were more than 7 of them, including behind the bar. And only 4 tables served. And one unserved. Maybe they tried to imitate Parisian arrogance, like some of their prices, which looked Parisian too. We felt bad. Nobody likes to be ignored. It took us 16 minutes to decide to leave. Obviously, they did not lose their flair from such an insignificant loss. They all continued moving in their Parisian fashion show pace. True dedication to their role, indecipherable to my simplistic mind. I wish I could talk to them to look for some insight. What are they? What do they want to be? What is the concept of the bar? Thank God, when we walked into the next bar, the owner stood up to welcome us and his bar had no other music but high quality Greek, his clothes were made for working and he made great coffee to accompany our ice creams. We had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant on two consecutive days. As a fellow professional in the restaurant industry, I would confidently rate the overall experience at 4.5 stars. The culinary quality exceeded expectations — the dishes were outstanding in both flavor and presentation. The drinks were well worth the price, with a distinct and memorable taste profile that sets them apart. This is the only area where there was room for improvement: On our first visit, we were seated at the bar area. Unfortunately, one of the servers struggled with English and did not communicate this, which resulted in missed orders and an unreceived receipt. However, another staff member — a young woman with a braided ponytail, provided excellent service. She was attentive and professional, and she also recognized us on the second day, further enhancing our experience. Her service deserves commendation. The following day, we dined in the main restaurant area and were served by a different team. While our initial receipt request was overlooked, our waiter did eventually bring it within about 15 minutes — a notable improvement from the previous day. Despite these minor service issues, the high quality of the food and the welcoming atmosphere more than made up for them. The staff was notably discourteous and failed to provide adequate or complete information regarding the operation of their so-called “special” menu. Having travelled to Greece on numerous occasions, I have never encountered a dining experience where a main course is served entirely without a carbohydrate component—such as potatoes or an equivalent side—without this being explicitly communicated in advance.

In this particular instance, we ordered the beef fillet, which consisted solely of a small piece of meat, accompanied by a single sliver of carrot (approximately the size of a pinky finger) and a minimal amount of fennel purée. No other accompaniment was provided. When we inquired as to whether this was the entirety of the dish, the response from the staff was not only unhelpful but also dismissive, resulting in an unnecessary and uncomfortable dispute. It would have been both appropriate and appreciated had the staff informed us at the time of ordering that the dish might reasonably require the addition of a side, given its limited portion.
