Mezedopoleío "To Steki" — Restaurant in Municipality of Aegina

One word: EXCEPTIONAL.

The place is small and unassuming, right behind the fish market.

However, the food is absolute bomb. I ordered the fava purée, which was creamy, tasty and served with crispy raw red onions. I then got the shrimps saganaki which were spectacular - you could tell the shrimps were super fresh, the heads were packed with flavor and the meat tender, sweet and juicy. I scooped it all up with the bread they had served me. Lastly I was offered a small dessert made of Greek yoghurt, some honey I believe and local pistachios, so far the best dessert I’ve had in Greece!

The bread was stale, not fresh. Mussels had no flavour and looked anaemic.One of the main courses was brought out with the starter. We asked that it be returned to the kitchen but it was not replaced and was served later cold and overcooked. Very few vegetables and salad with each of the main courses. The waiter did not ask if everything was OK and we had to seek him out to pay. If he had come we would have explained all this in person. Nascosto tra le viuzze di Egina questo ristorantino è di fronte il mercato del pesce,il locale piccolo si sviluppa praticamente in strada(pedonale non c'è pericolo)nella zona è pieno di gatti sono una delle particolarità dell'isola,non sono invadenti e non disturbano ogni tanto ne passa qualcuno a curiosare.La ragazza che ci ha accolto estremamente gentile ed educata. Parliamo di cibo,abbiamo preso le sardine arrosto le triglie fritte il formaggio fritto le polpette di melanzane e dei gamberi saganaki. Il pesce è fresco cucinato molto bene le sardine erano condite con un po di olio origano e una foglia cotta che non sono riuscito ad individuare(io l'ho mangiata ma sta lì per decorazioni e dare profumo) ,un buon piatto. Le triglie ovviamente fresche appena panate con farina e fritte fortunatamente bene quindi si sentiva il sapore del pesce. Il formaggio fritto mi dicono buono così come le polpette di melanzane(un pizzico insipida per me),ma veniamo al pezzo forte,i gamberi sono veramente un piatto particolare ,sono serviti dentro una terrina con un "sugo" fatto di pomodoro fresco e udite udite pezzetti di feta,qualcuno storcerà il naso ma il contrasto che c'è tra la dolcezza del gambero e la sapidità della feta è veramente un ottimo mix, al momento dall'ordine mi è stato chiesto se volessi il sughetto piccante o meno e un pizzico l'ho fatto fare piccante ma niente di che,nonostante non sia un amante dei formaggi(praticamente non ne mangio)ho veramente apprezzato il piatto. Ci è stato anche portato dell'anello a fette arrosto e condito con olio e sale e del paté di olive. Acqua una birra e 2 mastika offerte prezzo per il pesce fresco mai visto prima,ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo,vale veramente la pena...
