Good evening, today on 09/16/2023 my wife and I decided to visit the Ocean Plaka restaurant, which was recommended to us as a restaurant of high quality cuisine and quite expensive in this region.I would like to note that we often visit expensive gourmet restaurants and just ordinary restaurants where you can get an interesting experience of gastronomy of local cuisine and just have a delicious meal, this is not the first time in Crete and we stay at the Daios Cave Hotel, which is rightfully famous for its attentive attitude to customers and very high-quality, delicious cuisine,in all the restaurant of this hotel. We decided to visit this restaurant, hoping for high-quality cuisine and attentive attitude, so the only thing that can be positively noted in this restaurant is a beautiful view and a friendly attitude from, apparently, the owners of this restaurant. We studied the menu and decided to choose almost the most expensive dishes, in this restaurant, we ordered shrimp, squid, toasted grape leaves with rice, Greek salad and for the main 2 servings of sea bass fricassee with vegetables, the cost of each dish is from 9-20 euros per dish. For wines - only homemade wine by the glass, we decided not to experiment and took a bottle of Italian prosecco. The service was very strange, we poured all the drinks ourselves, while the waiters chatted among themselves, standing on the street, only the owners of this restaurant paid attention to the visitors, the waiters were busy with themselves. Everything we tried was, without exaggeration, of disgusting quality, with the exception of shrimp, in tomato sauce, which tasted decent, I want to note that the cook really does not know how to cook, it's just amazing and causes unpleasant bewilderment and disappointment! Greek salad is just a name, finely chopped onion, pepper, cherry tomatoes and cheese spread on the edges of the plate, not cheese as such, but cheese spread,it's unclear how it was supposed to be, squid is fried in batter squid rings, like a regular beer snack, yes it's normal for a beer bar,but for a fairly expensive restaurant-it's terrible and not tasty! Rice under a rich, fatty mayonnaise sauce, on grape leaves-nothing but heartburn and an unpleasant aftertaste did not cause, but the biggest disappointment was the fish dish, this sea bass fricassee (20 euros per serving) it was just disgusting!how could you spoil a small fillet on the skin of sea bass and boiled vegetables?but everything is possible here, the fish was overcooked and just turned into porridge, all the vegetables were so soft and overcooked that it was simply impossible to eat it, it feels like the cook doesn't have any qualifications at all, or he despises his guests so much that he cooks so that the guests quickly run away and never come again! The whole dinner cost us 125 euros for two, it's not much for a good, expensive restaurant, but it's very expensive for this level of cafe, to be honest, it was a disgusting experience, not tasty, there is no service, in fact, it's unclear where such prices and such positioning of the restaurant as expensive and high-quality?! Our experience it was sharply negative, we will never come here again and we do...
Read moreI was in Lasithi on vacation last week and was told by a friend to eat at Ocean Restaurant at least once before going back. I've got to say it was by far the best dining experience during our seven day vacation there. The staff was absolutely amazing. They were very friendly and helpful. They created such a great welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant's environment and its location was spectacular combined with such tasty food.
We had ordered the marinated seabass, tuna tataki, grilled octapus and the green salad for starters. For the main courses we had the rissoto with marinated shrimps and the seafood linguini. When they brought us the dishes we got quite impressed with the presentation. The dishes looked like pieces of art but most importantly they were so rich in flavor. You could tell that the guys in the kitchen pour their love into the food which is the most important ingredient for making a delicious meal. As a person who likes uncommon ingredients in food, I was very impressed with how well the flavors had blended together. The phrase "it makes bang for your buck" summarizes perfectly the overall experience. If I ever go back, I would most certainly dine at Ocean again. Needless to say I highly recommend it...
Read moreWe, two friends, were on a day-trip to the island Spinalonga and stopped at the Ocean Restaurant after our island visit for lunch. The port village called Plaka is tiny and there is pretty much nothing more than restaurants and shops, set-up for tourists. It’s really cute and peaceful and although all restaurants look good, we had our doubt if they were some kind of touristy traps. Most people stop at the beginning and probably fail to see the Ocean Restaurant that is located a bit further down the path. In our opinion, the most beautiful one of all restaurants, all staff was very kind, professional and attentive and always smiling. And well, the most important part: the food was absolutely delicious!!! We were very much positively surprised. We had the TUNA TATAKI which was absolutely outstanding. Then we had the GRILLED OCTOPUS each one of us. We had enough, however we looked over the other meals of other tables and everything just looked amazing. The food was fresh, prepared in a distinct way, the offered appetisers were great too, and the view was just fantastic. We highly recommend this restaurant! If we were staying in the vicinity, we would have...
