We walked the three miles from Elounda to Plaka, had a little wander and settled on The Pine Tree for refreshment. We couldn’t have made a better choice. Fotini is a delight, she is so friendly and helpful. The seats are arranged looking towards the sea and Spinalonga. It’s the only place that we had ‘proper’ delicious meze with the drinks rather than crisps and nuts (not a complaint about the others, just an observation). My friend and I left our husbands there for an hour while we checked out the lovely shops. 😊 We liked it so much we decided to walk to Plaka again and go across on the boat from there to Spinalonga (12€, it’s 14€ from Elounda, but a longer trip), then spend some time again at The Pine Tree. We highly recommend you give this bar your time.
Four of us were on holiday 1/10-11/10. There is a taxi rank across the road from the The Pine Tree and in high season there are taxis at the rank, but in October they tend to be at the Elounda taxi rank and then drive to Plaka for pick-ups. Fotini at The Pine Tree called a cab for us and we paid 10€, which was fine split four ways. If you’re in Elounda either ask your hotel, or stop at the Elounda taxi rank to get the generic taxi number. The bus stop is also near the taxi rank. Buses ran two hourly on the hour from Elounda to Plaka and on the half hour back. But check that out when you get here. Have a great holiday. It’s my first time here and...

Greeted by Chris who was warm, welcoming, and during our accidental 18.00-23 .00 stay was absolutely fantastic to make sure that we were happy, had enough off their small mezes and felt like we were treasured guests along with the rest of the local greek families (wonderful)
the big difference is that this place will cater for (I don't want a meal, but a cheeky little something to keep me going)
Small Meze's at a reasonable price. have a seat, order something tasty, see what else came out, order that as well...not stuffed but...
Read moreEvery time I visit Plaka the Pine Tree is a must visit, the food is excellent 👌 the Beer is of the highest quality, to find a place in Crete where someone who truly knows how to treat draught beer is a godsend, the staff are of the highest caliber and look after their customers very well, the mezze that they serve with their drinks are varied and invariably delicious. I would of recommend the Pine Tree as a must go to place for anyone visiting Plaka, even if you just have a beer. Take a short break and sit there with a drink and soak up the atmosphere in this perfectly...
