Dropped by for lunch with my family before visiting the lake. Its a short walk (5 mins) from the lake and a lovely place. Free parking on site and it's quite homely. Very relaxing and cosy. The staff are lovely and the ambience is nice. The food was okay, but not worth the price. I suspect you are paying 1-2 euros more for being near a tourist site, so it's not a massive deal breaker. Two adults ended up costing nearly €64. The chicken minestrone soup was the best, very tasty and hearty. The stuffed zucchini was nice but low in flavour. The fish was cooked perfectly but again lacked flavour. The lamb was very fatty and tougher than expected. I ate lamb 8 times in Crete and this place had the toughest and fattiest lamb. A good note is that they have lots of facilities for children. There's a slide and a play area. Someone wanted to smoke in the garden and the hostess kindly asked them to smoke away from the tables as we had our toddler there. That was appreciated A little bit disturbing was the number of cats there (4). I understand they belong to a neighbour, it's not pleasant having cats watching your or trying to climb your table which has your food. Something to note of you have allergies or a phobia of cats. Again the owner was helpful in having them leave us alone. It appears to be a family restaurant and they are all very lovely and sweet.

You won’t be disappointed to dine at Georgia’s Taverna! One of many family owned and operated restaurants in Crete, Georgia herself sat with us as a warm welcome, and to help walk us through the menu (she afforded all guests this hospitality during our visit). She is a warm and loving host, and was truly happy to meet us. Georgia remarked that giving us a wonderful experience was important to her, not just because we were paying customers, but because we were regarded as her family during the meal. We ordered appetizers to share and were very impressed by the generous portions of all homemade dishes - cabbage rolls, zucchini cakes, Gruyère, bread and tzatziki with authentic lemonade. The outdoor seating area was beautiful, surrounded by trees, flowers and decor. We needed to rush out to make it to our wine tour but Georgia’s children (also working as restaurant) insisted that we taste their cookies and Raki on the way out.

Traditional Greek tavern, family business. Was pretty good service, but not so fast. We said to server "without bread", but tried to give it for us anyway. You must understand, it's not for free. Usually Greek salad consist more than 4 olives, more cucumbers, onion, tomatoes, cheese... Tomatoes weren't tasty also, cheap stuff from some supermarket I think. But homemade feta cheese was really good. Portions are really small, like in usual european a-là-cartè restaurant, not as in Greek traditional tavern. I'm in Greece at my 4th vacation, I understand, what I'm talking about. Homemade lemonade, glass 0,4l costs like beer. We didn't aks about price, so it's our problem. Can recommend, but not as cheap place for eat there. It's for tourists only. Nobody of locals eat there, so it's not so good.

Just finished up a meal here at Georgia's. Georgia and Marco are wonderful, Georgia took the time to come and sit down at our table and ask us about our individual needs. She talked us through the menu, what are her personal favourites and where all the food is sourced. Turns out the meat is sourced from her husbands farm and the vegetables are from her own garden. It felt like being fed in your Mum's kitchen where all the doos is made with love. Marco was also brilliant, he made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed, he also made sure that we didn't over order based on portion sizing and our own appetite which we thought was super considerate.

We ordered the zucchini croquettes, stuffed papers, stuffed hamburger, wild vegetable salad, tzatziki and for dessert we had the yoghurt and strawberry jam amd chocolate soufflé. The food was amazing and all homemade.

Thank you Georgia, we will be back again to...

⭐☆☆☆☆ Disappointing Experience for Families

We were excited to try this taverna based on the setting and the promise of a family-friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately, the experience left us feeling unwelcome. The initial greeting felt overly forced, and it quickly became clear that our young children — especially our 2-year-old — weren’t genuinely welcome. While there’s a playground on-site, we got the sense that the staff weren’t actually comfortable with kids using it.

By the end of the meal, the warmth was gone completely — no typical dessert or gesture of hospitality, just an awkward “do you want a cookie?” at checkout. The place was almost empty, so it wasn’t a matter of being busy. The energy shift was clear, and it was disheartening, especially in a country known for its warmth and generosity toward children.

This might be a fine place for quiet adult meals, but it’s not truly welcoming to families with...
