Tαβέρνα Φιλόσοφος — Restaurant in Municipality of Archane - Asterousia

I honestly cannot understand how this place has a rating of 4.9. The food was below average. Badly cooked, most dishes arrived cold with no seasoning. I could tell the meat was good quality, but the cooking was terrible. The meat was burnt in places and it was placed on the plate with the burnt side down to hide it. Raw in other places. We ordered liver, it was overcooked and lacked salt. No oil, sauce or lemon on anything (salad, oven potatoes etc) and everything was dry. There is an open kitchen and you can see inside. I could see staff putting dishes in the microwave and then sending them for service. Staff was talking occasionally on their phones or sorting the orders and then continued to chop food up using the same pair of gloves. There appeared to be a head chef inside but didn't do much in terms of quality checking.

The waiter comes to the window and asks for each dish where it's going, so that's kinda annoying to hear constantly. He kept coming to ask us if the food is nice and when we said no, he blamed the kitchen. The whole experience was very underwhelming and it was obvious other customers shared it. There were many leftovers on plates around us and people didn't seem happy.

It could have been a bad day for the staff but I doubt it, those were rookie mistakes of a bad kitchen. There are better options in the village. Avoid...

I visited this 4.9 rated then, tavern and I had high expectations. My expectations were crushed unfortunately. The worst thing was the service, the waiters were amable but did not serve us overall. The food was good and horrible at the same time. I liked tzatziki the most, the baked potato was very expensive for the 6.5 EUR price tag and not the greatest and the grill had a chicken wing in blood with raw meat. Unfortunate I did not take a picture but having told the waiter about it he said it is because of the cooking method or whatever nonsense he spewed. He offered to take it back if we want but no compensation, no verbal excuses, no other wing being brought back to us in exchange. At the end of the meal no one asked us if we were happy with the whole experience. The waiter forgot to bring one more liter of water we ordered, he did brought it eventually after I told him about it before we left. This is not a 4.9 tavern, the food is not great, the service is mediocre at best and the portions are very small. The only above average aspect of this place are the prices which in itself is a bad thing not a good one. There are a lot better places around that deserve your money not this one. The reviews are most likely fake or their standard has unfortunately degraded...

Disappointed and concerned about food safety

We visited this restaurant during our vacation in Greece, trusting its high rating (4.8), but unfortunately the experience left us disappointed.

After the meal, my husband’s 10-year-old nephew got sick — he had meat and felt nauseous all the way home. Also, my husband’s sister had a severe allergic reaction after eating a dish with capers. She had no idea she was allergic to them before.

I personally don’t eat meat, but some of the meat dishes looked and smelled questionable. It felt like the food wasn’t very fresh.

I feel very sorry for my family, who suffered after this visit. For a place with such a high rating, we expected better food...
