Sadly pretty disappointed by our visit here. We were killing some time before our flight home and were looking for somewhere for dinner after watching the planes taking off and landing at the end of the runway.
This place is pretty tired - it just felt a bit rundown and lacking atmosphere inside and the only redeeming feature was the great view of planes passing by. The service wasn't particularly friendly and we were brought out some bread (which we chose not to eat so I don't think we were charged for) and some more soggy bread with I think a tapenade and tomatoes on top (which we ate). We assumed this was on the house but it was added to our bill... I'd rather be told it was on the house or be asked if we'd like an appetiser for a specific price. It just feels dishonest. We ordered moussaka and chicken souvlaki mains. Both were served with undercooked, cheap chips, and the moussaka was obviously reheated with a large crusted edge on it that was inedible. The chicken itself was just average compared to other souvlaki I had elsewhere. Prices were fairly expensive given the lower quality of the food, and drinks were pricey compared to other places on the island.
We didn't leave a tip (we normally tip generously if service and food is good) and the server seemed visibly annoyed by this... Asking passive aggressively where we were from (as if looking for a reason to justify the no tip) before just walking away from us at the table.
A bit of a dampener on our last evening in Corfu, after a great experience in many other...
Read moreWe chose this restaurant based on reviews, and it did not disappoint. The place is beautifully situated with a view of the harbor near the airport, providing a unique backdrop of planes landing and taking off. The tables are arranged on large terraces over two levels, adding to the scenic dining experience. From the very beginning, as is customary in a good restaurant, we were served cold water, which was a nice touch.
However, in the evening, the place is swarmed with mosquitoes, and there were no measures in place to repel them. It's advisable to come prepared for this.
The grilled squid and shrimp in cheese-tomato sauce were delicious. For starters, we ordered pickled fish, which was well-marinated in vinegar. The restaurant also served complimentary tasty bread with olive paste and a small tomato. For dessert, we had a chocolate soufflé that was absolutely delightful. Additionally, we were treated to a complimentary watermelon at the end of our meal.
However, the restrooms need improvement. While there were facilities to wash and dry hands with soap, neither the men's nor women's restroom doors closed properly. The toilet in the women's restroom was difficult to flush, and there were spiders on the ceiling that scared our child. It seems like it wouldn't be hard to clean them up.
We arrived at 8:00 PM on a weekday and found two parking spots available near the entrance, though overall, the parking...
Read moreWe read all the reviews before going to Avra, the good and the bad ones. Anyway, we tried it out the place. It has a fabulous view, breathtaking actually. And the staff was very friendly and kind, I felt so bad for them however, we had leave the restaurant as the food was not editable...
We ordered bruschettas with tomatoes and feta and it was very good. It had fresh ingredients and nice flavour - the only part I can recommend.
Afterwards, we ordered one bolognese pasta and it was totally greasy, the meat seemed to be spoiled and to hide it up they had covered the meat with so much cinnamon. It was absolutely disgusting to eat. We had also ordered one pastitsada which was better, however, the pasta was still grasy with old meat.
In this sense, we could understand that the problem was not the staff itself but rather the ingredients used. We loved staying in Corfu and eating corfioti food, but not here.
My suggestion to Avra: please improve the food you're serving, because a guest will not just stay at the restaurant only because of the wonderful view you have. You can have a wonderful restaurant if you improve it.
My suggestion to guests: use your...
