Tsafaki in Chalkida is a restaurant that initially entices with its picturesque, cozy setting, but sadly fails to deliver on the promise of a memorable dining experience. While the cheese from Kimi and the Portokalopita dessert were commendable, these highlights could not mask the glaring shortcomings in both food and service.

The ambience, while visually appealing, was undermined by poor soundproofing that amplified even the smallest sounds. With only a handful of diners present, the space felt unnecessarily loud, exacerbated by the uninspired choice of radio music. This is not the kind of atmosphere one hopes for when seeking a serene dining experience.

The food, unfortunately, was unremarkable. The bread, often a simple pleasure, was carelessly grilled, and the overall quality of the dishes leaned towards mediocrity. What was most perplexing, however, was the utter lack of attention to presentation. Plates arrived at the table with no visual appeal, a cardinal sin in an age where dining is as much about the eyes as it is the palate. Furthermore, the limited wine selection—only one option available by the glass—was disappointing, as was the absence of several menu items. The alternatives offered came without any mention of pricing, which felt both unprofessional and unpolished.

Service was uneven and left much to be desired. While the first waiter was polite and efficient, the second displayed a level of indifference that bordered on rude. Plates were deposited on the table without explanation or even a cursory “bon appétit,” leaving diners feeling more like an inconvenience than valued guests.

Despite its lovely location and a few culinary bright spots, Tsaf struggles to meet even basic expectations. The lack of care in execution, both in the kitchen and on the floor, makes it a missed opportunity in a region known for its rich gastronomic potential. Aesthetic charm alone cannot sustain a restaurant, and Tsaf would do well to reassess its approach if it hopes to leave a lasting impression on...

Strange attitude of the waiter ruined a good meal. He asked if we wanted menus in English (I am Australian but I live in Athens), fine but I said no thanks. He then questioned if I can read Greek (I can thank you, I said I am ok with the Greek menu, I live here and my dining companion is Greek/Canadian). Asked for tap water (we try to avoid too many plastics) he went all the way to the kitchen and brought back a carafe of tap water then announced it was not potable (drinkable). Fine, happy to pay for a bottle of water but why the performance? The food was great but the 'hilopites pasta with garides' was presented with no heads or tails on the prawns, very strange in Greece, was this done for 'the foreigners'? Overall fabulous flavours and we would have ordered more food and wine and stayed longer but the waiter's attitude made us just want to...

Overrated... my first experience last year was awful. I was served several full shrimp still in the shell that were dropped in the fryer and a salad that had an inedible vine inside. I had several local friends who raved that I try the place again, so I went back... The crab salad, fried shrimp (which didn't have the shell on this time) , and the calamari were average. The service was absolutely horrible and some of the slowest I have seen around
