A real disappointment. As a solotraveler, I am in Agia Marina for 3 weeks. Last year I was in Chania for 4 weeks. Never been treated like this and I have visited lots of restaurants in this region yet. I never do self-catering. Although there were wooden tables with comfortable chairs available, I was given an old very small table with a plastic chair, in a corner. With already used tablepaper. The staff was arguing about that table while I stood there. I normally order a full meal with seafood, wine, .... But here, I didn't feel welcome. So I ordered zuchini fritters as an appetizer and chicken gyros as a main course. Both plates came together, which they didn't do at other tables. I told the waiter that this wasn't ok, but he ignored what I was saying. The food was ok, but not wow. The meat of the chicken gyros wasn't even warm the moment they brought it to the table. It came 5 minutes after ordening it. No salt, pepper or olive oil at my table. Other tables did have this. At other restaurants, the waiters are very friendly, asking constantly if everything is ok. Here, they are a master in ignoring and are very busy with their headsets. There was a large table with obviously friends or family from the staff. All attention was only for them. The staff went even sitting at that table to join. No problem to me, as long as it doesn't affect service. I asked a second coke but was brought beer. I told the girl I ordered a coke. The beer was taken away, but no coke. When I asked for the bill, they asked for the first time if everything was ok. I told the lady the problems. They tried to make it up to me by giving a coke from the house. Therefore a 3 star instead of 2. I won't come back. So many restaurants in the same street with way better service. Don't forget that a solotraveler may spend more money alone than a couple sometimes does. In other restaurants they do understand this. My advice: go and have a meal at all your neighbours and experience the...
Read moreFrom the reviews I somehow expected a little bit more. It wasn't bad but to be honest: we ate in other places with lower reviews and the food quality there was much more convincing. Everything was ok, but the taste of the dishes couldn't really convince me. There were no clever details to the preparation of ingredients that we have found in other restaurants. Staff was friendly but also at a different level than what I have seen. My sister, who is no foodie like me mentioned that her white wine was too warm. Something very simple that can be changed easily. Unfortunately I didn't leave admiring the experience...
Read moreFantastic family vibe and incredible food. We found a place called Gousto that did not have a huge printed menu but had ‘specials’ which were superlative. We were shocked at how good the food was because the place is so understated (you’d miss it if you blinked). I had pasta with shrimp which was not on the menu but was the best I’d ever had (no exaggeration). My partner had mussels and a fried shrimp dish that was amazing. And these guys know how to make a sauce. The staff were all friendly in a really genuine way. I strongly recommend stopping...
