Gorgona Bar — Restaurant in Municipality of Chersonissos

PLEASE NOTE THURSDAY AND FRIDAY THERE IS ONLY ONE PERSON WORKING THE FLOOR SO BE PATIENT, REMEMBER THESE GUYS WORK FROM 8 TILL 11 AND PUT HARD SHIFT IN.. ALSO BE KIND NOT EVERYONE GETS EVERYONES HUMOUR.

One of best restaurants in hersonissos for day or night. By day you can get a bed on the beach for 5€ off one of the nicest people you can meet babis, he works the beds and also works in the restaurant, he would keep us two beds everyday in the prime location, he would sort us a cup of tea every morning, serve us during the day in restaurant and also ply us with Raki (YAMAS). Babis would also chat to us about alsorts of things share a beer, share his fruit with us, I can honestly say this bloke is a credit to the place. 100% you will want to buy him a beer.. Manoli who works the restaurant is an absolute gem too, so pleasant, so chatty, so funny, so accommodating, he reminded me of costas from Shirley valentines... Now the food here is on another level to most other places (FULL OF LOCAL PEOPLE AND VISITING GREEKS SO THAT TELLS ITS OWN TALE), so first off GREEK SALAD is absolutely 💯 the very best in the whole of greece 🇬🇷 and I have had more Greek salads in Greece than most had hot dinners, its the freshest most juiciest salad to the point you use your bread to mop up the juice or if no bread left you ladle it in like cold soup.. Honestly unbelievable.. Next is the saganaki cheese 🧀 that is amazing and a must to go with your salad, it is again one of the best in all of greece (TRY IT AS MOST TOURISTS HAVEN'T HEARD ABOUT IT LET ALONE HAD IT). Moving on to the calamari WOW so so fresh so tasty again it's a must here, Dakos (hard crusty bread with a tomato topping and Feta on top) is really nice starter although we always get everything all at once like a Meze. I could go on and on about the food but will mention one last thing special omelette for breakfast is a must must must beautiful and filling.

Beer, wine and Raki spot on oh and English tea perfect..

Decor is greek shabby sheek just looks perfect in every way and view is tremendous, you won't be disappointed..

Update since first visit been back to crete 5x and visited here daily, gets better every time.. the sign outside says " come in a stranger and leave a friend" is so true of this restaurant, all the staff are lovely people, special mentions as earlier is Babis such a great bloke, funny and very hard working i consider him now a good friend (greatest saying " what time is it? Your reply "its Raki time". Another special mention is manoli again great bloke, very comedic, gives you a laugh and makes you smile and very hard working with it, I also consider him a good friend.. miss them both when not there.. natalia (possibly incorrect spelling) works behind the bar is a lovely woman, very friendly and makes you feel very welcome.. Another stand out star in this restaurant or not is costas who works in the shop attached to restaurant he is a friendly great fella, he loves football and you will find him wearing at least 3 of his large collection of football tops every day, most are donated by patrons of the shop and restaurant, so if you like a good chat about footy pop in to see him.

I can honestly say if this restaurant wasn't there with all these characters I wouldn't...

Absolutely fantastic. We first went here in 2023 on a whim when walking down a road near our hotel one night. We noticed the small entrance next to this shop and decided to check it out. We were straight away greeted by the very very nice waiter Manos. The place was nice and quiet, with traditional Greek/Cretan music playing at just the right volume. After this night we came back every night and day. The place has a beach, so you can get a sunbed for 4.50 per person, which for this area was very cheap! This beach is perfect for snorkeling as it is teaming with wild life.

Manos, the waiter, is what made that place so inviting. At night when we would come down for a drink, sometimes he would pull up a chair and sit down with us for a chat! He would also come over with shots of Raki to do shots with us. When we came back this year, he immediately recognised us and greeted us with a big hug!

And the food, wow! So much for so cheap. The seafood is a little more expensive compared to the rest of the menu, however is comes apparent as you get a right plate full! You only need 2 plates between 2 people, then share amongst each other. I would recommend the (amazing) Greek Salad with a Beef dish.

10/10 Place, 10/10 staff, 10/10 food. the best find on any holiday...

If you came Heraklion to swim in peace. This is the right place. It is quite and not so touristy. Around of this taverna, there are many hotels with cost line. However there sea is more wavy. Here was perfect. Little beach with crystal clear water. You can even see little fishes.

You can rent sun beds and umbrella from the taverna next to it. We rented two chairs and one umbrella for 9 euro all day long. You can also pay with card. For the beach and this good taverna, I would especially rate the experience. There were not many people and most of them leaves after 2 pm. So it was very quite comparing to famous beaches around of Heraklion. So water stays also more clear. Plus: no one is coming to ask if you order sth. You can also buy drinks from the market there.

Workers in taverna were also so friendly. They are always there. So you can leave your bag without a problem. In crowded beaches, it would be really a problem. Taverna offers also good and delicious...
