1790 wine cave — Restaurant in Municipality of Folegandros

My wife and I had two wonderful evenings at 1790. The wine list offers an incredible selection of wines from “island” producers, most of which are from across Greece, but includes bottles from other islands such as Sicily, Britain (sparkling!), Tasmania, New Zealand and even some French island appellations. One of the best curated wine selections I’ve seen in Greece. Great value on rare bottles for take-away as well. The food is creative, extremely well executed, and absolutely delicious. A very special spot not to be missed- (not just a wine cellar but a fantastic meal out too) We stumbled across this place on our first night when we wanted a glass of wine before dinner. Quickly we realised this place has much more to offer. We returned for a fantastic meal and would urge others to do the same! The food is clever and provides an unique twist on the classic Greek cuisine with wonderful fresh ingredients from the island. The owner is incredibly knowledgable friendly and passionate about wine and the food served. This spot is unique to the island, in its first year open it feels like a secret that I expect it will be out soon and it will be full every night…...

After two disappointing restaurants in Folegrandos, we had high hopes for our last dinner at 1790. From start to finish, impeccable execution of every dish, and the wine list is very extensive albeit priced accordingly.

Dishes were busting with flavours and the staff was very attentive; you saw people doing their craft and enjoying doing so.

Absolute must if you stay in a Folegrandos, I would recommend saving for this one and otherwise try some of the local restaurants outside the main village up north for an authentic...
