I recently had the pleasure of dining at a traditional Greek taverna in the picturesque village of Olympos, Karpathos, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the very first moment, I was struck by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The owner is incredibly friendly and genuinely hospitable, treating every guest as if they were family, no matter where they come from. He makes you feel immediately at home and adds a personal touch to the whole dining experience.
The food itself was absolutely outstanding. Every dish we tried was full of authentic Greek flavors, clearly prepared with love and respect for local culinary traditions. The ingredients tasted fresh and natural, and the recipes stayed true to the roots of Greek cuisine. It felt like a perfect balance between simplicity and richness, just the way Greek food should be. From the appetizers to the main courses, everything was delicious, and it was clear that this was not just a restaurant but a place that celebrates Greek culture through food.
Another highlight was the view. The taverna is set in a breathtaking location, overlooking the sea, and offers a perfect spot to enjoy a meal while soaking in the beauty of the island. Watching the sun set over the water while enjoying authentic Greek dishes is something I will always remember.
The décor was also charming, with a local and traditional Greek style that matched the spirit of Olympos perfectly. The combination of the stone walls, wooden details, and traditional decorations created a genuine and cozy atmosphere that made the whole experience even more enjoyable.
Overall, I would highly recommend this taverna to anyone visiting Karpathos. It offers not just excellent food but also a warm, authentic, and memorable cultural experience. Whether you come from near or far, you will be welcomed with open arms, taste true Greek flavors, and enjoy one of the most beautiful views...
Read moreWe visited this taverna as a family of four. At first the owner and the staff were very friendly. We ordered the food and waited. And waited. 30 minutes on we asked why it was taking so long even for the wine. The waiter said “don’t you see? We are very busy”. “Yes, we see. Can we at least have our wine please?” We said. And we had our wine. 30 more minutes passed and nothing else came in our table (not even the salad, unlike the salads in other tables that came after us). 1 hour later we were very annoyed. And when we told them that maybe we should leave, no, they didn’t apologize for the delay. The waiter just said “I’ll go check if anything is ready and if not you may leave”.
No my friends. This is not professional. This is plain bad behavior. It’s not enough being over friendly when a customer gets in your taverna. You have to keep him even if you are very busy (very busy...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to eating here. It started well with an ice cold beer and a marvellous view of the sunset. The owner was friendly if perhaps a bit too talkative but that's part of the experience. The we asked to see the menu. Rather than giving us the menu, the owner assertively suggested we had what he described as his version of Greek tapas. We were intrigued, so went along with his suggestion. To be fair, a lot of food arrived on our table. But it was so disappointing. There were four versions of stuffed vegetable, all fried and bland and battered. Dolmades from a tin. A small dish of chicken and rice was pleasant. As we ate, we saw the owner insist that a teenager on the next table tried one of the vegetarian dishes - the boy didn't like it and gave it to one of his friends. The most disappointing meal of our two weeks on the Greek islands of...
