During our week-long stay in Karpathos, the Calypso was worth at least two visits. This was only because we wanted to try other tavernas, otherwise we would have gone more often. The food there is absolutely top-notch; everything is a highlight and a real eye-catcher, both in terms of taste and appearance. The prices are 50 to 75% of what we would pay here. Without exception, everyone in the service is friendly, courteous, extremely helpful, and warm. We can't understand why some of the negative reviews are written here by some scoundrels. Ultimately, these can only come from people who are constantly looking for faults in their lives instead of being happy about something, or who can't stand themselves — even on vacation. Perhaps these people should consider whether they themselves could manage to toiling 12 to 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, under extreme stress, in a restaurant and then — to top it all off — remain friendly to customers like themselves. And perhaps it's also worth saying at this point: what goes around comes around. For our part, we've had nothing but positive experiences in all the restaurants on Karpathos. The terrace is beautiful and gives the place a really nice, cozy vibe. Portions are big, so I’d recommend sharing a few dishes if you want to try more things (which you’ll definitely want to!).
The prices are very reasonable and feel fair for what you get.
One tip: if you’re planning to come for dinner, it’s a good idea to book a table in advance because it gets quite busy.
Overall, we loved it here and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great Greek...
Read moreVery good restaurant at the little bay of Ammopi. One of the few ones as this bay is very small and has limited places to chose from. The food has the greek taste, ingredients are fresh, dishes are fair good size. Wine of the house is okey, remember we are in Greece. The restaurant is beach front, but does not have sea view. Most of the clients are tourists staying at hotels nearby, so during dinner service it is very crowded and busy. During lunch the place is calmer. I admit the food and location are really good and it is worth returning for that, but the staff is too much in a hurry and not quite welcoming....
