Mamma Maria Restaurant — Restaurant in Municipality of Karpathos

Don't bother going here, the owner deliberately made all the customers wait in order to make the restaurant look more attractive for passersby... We waited for like 20 minutes to just get to order the drinks, then 30 minutes more to just ORDER the food.

The reason we stayed after ordering the drinks was because it looked like everyone else were waiting too, so we just guessed it was like this in restaurants in this area (our first evening here). After we ordered the drinks and waited for 10 more minutes we just wanted to go to another restaurant because of the long wait, but it was impossible to get hold if the waiter... It was then we realized this was a weird restaurant 😅 In hindsight, we should have realized this already when we were ordering the drinks and were told to wait for the other waiter to order the food + seeing the other guests without any food on their table.. 😂

We ordered sallad and fried kalamari as appetizers, waited for quite some time and were quite dissappointed with how the appetizer looked (just initial reaction), however, the appetizer per-se was quite delicious! The moussaka was also very tasty!

Honestly the 1 star review is 100% due to the extremely rude owner and the bad service + the scammy behavior by the owner. The owner put fourth bread on the table in the beginning (we didn't eat any of it), and tried to charge us for 2 slices of bread for 2€ each?! It felt quite ridiculous and when we questioned this, the owner shruged and said "meh ok".

As I said in the beginning, DON'T bother going here when you're here on vacation.. Go to any other restaurant and get better service.

Ps. Now when i think about it, the owner seemed to be selectively rude to some customers?! He seemed to behave more in front of families, and rude in front...

Finding a traditional Greek taverna in Pigadia seems very difficult as the owners fight for all the tourists arriving to the island during summer time and it looks like the quality lost the battle with the quantity of people they want to serve every night. What happened to freshly fried potato chips and great olive oil or olives? Why are you charging 4 euros for a bread I neither ordered nor touched during my dinner? Why are you serving a complimentary quzo to some guests but not to others? I give 3 stars as the watermelon salad with Greek cheese was really delicious and freshly made. The sea bream (tsipoura) definitely wasn’t grilled on spot as promised as it arrived far too quickly for that. The fried calamari was nice but accompanied by processed and dry fries, lacking taste and crispness. The service was nice only until you ordered the food, they really didn’t care for you afterwards. Having been to both Rhodes and Crete before I must say the Karpathian food left us slightly disappointed.....

Didn't really get a chance to experience the food as all the focus was on an unpleasant waiter. The clearly too old for us guy, asked how me and my friend were related to each other, if we were together or cousins. When we said we that were friends he started to flirt, asking about my Instagram. He was generally on and unpleasant, dancing next to our table and wanting us to dance. Told us to wait for him and join him for a drink afterwards. We made it as clear as possible that the whole situation was uncomfortable but he couldn't take a hint. Later in the evening we met another tourist (girl) and told her about our experience. It turned out that she also had the misfortune of being served by the same man. She had even told the man that she wasn't into guys. It didn't help. She showed us that she received several unsolicited...
