Acropolis Bistro Bar — Restaurant in Municipality of Karpathos

It’s been a couple of years since I was last at Acropolis. Despite that I think it speaks volumes that I’ve come back to write a review after all of this time.

Truly this place has lived in my head rent free.

Let’s skip all sentimentals and get to what’s important:

Food quality was excellent. A reasonably sized menu not attempting to appeal to all tastes but serving an attractive menu of both local and some more familiar dishes done to an impeccably high standard.

A particularly picky eater which I dined with was treated like royalty. The owners themselves went above and beyond to produce off-menu dishes to cater for them displaying a level of service I’ve rarely witnessed anywhere else.

Personally I’m one to scrutinise reviews when on holiday destinations. You often see reviews written under ‘duress’ as reviews are written by customers pressed upon by the staff offering discounts and other incentives for doing so. There was none of this here. The food and service spoke for itself

I can honestly say that Acropolis made my whole experience of Karpathos one I’ll never forget and is a major draw for me to return...

Don’t go here during busy hours. For our brunch we where roaming around the city and stumbled upon Acropolis to which we where excitedly greeted and seated. But we quickly realized we should’ve sat down elsewhere. We had to wait close to 45 minutes for the simplest orders like a croissant and an orange juice to which both tasted “ok” at best. The staff was insanely chaotic. Roaming and running around not knowing where to go or what to do and bringing orders in one at the time with minutes in between so that no one ever eats or drinks all together at the table. We could verbally hear loud yelling coming from the kitchen to suggest that they should hurry up and make the food quicker because they are falling behind. Also very annoying that there is such a small walkway if you sit near the left.. The staff and other people will continuously rub and push right against your chair rocking you while you are eating as a result. My advise:...

Mein Mann und ich waren das 1. Mal in diesem Lokal und vom Essen selbst hellauf begeistert.

✨️ Zum Essen: Es war nicht nur optisch schön zubereitet, auch geschmacklich fehlte es an nichts. Ich selbst habe Koch/Kellner gelernt u. weiß, wie gutes Essen schmecken muss. Das Steak war medium u. geschmacklich derart gut, dass man die Sauce, welche man dazu bestellen kann, gar nicht benötigte.

Der gegrillte Oktopus 🐙 extrem zart - ich war schon oft in Griechenland bzw. am Meer u. es war der mit Abstand beste, den ich je gegessen habe.

Das Plizrisotto 🍄 war genauso zubereitet, wie es sich für ein Risotto gehört (haben wir unsererorts schon weit schlechter zubereitet bekommen) - der Reis war erstens einmal ein richtiger Risottoreis und der Konsistenz nach wurde dieser lange genug in der Brühe gekocht 💖

Auch das Tzatziki zur Vorspeise erhielten wir erstmalig (wie sichs offenbar gehört) mit einer Nuance von Dille. Nicht zu viel u. nicht zu wenig - also genauso anstandslos wie der Rest!

✨️ Zum Personal: Dieses war überaus freundlich u. zuvorkommend, wir haben uns einerseits sehr gut beraten u. andererseits überaus wohl gefühlt.

✨️ Zu den von anderen Benutzern negativ bewerteten Aspekten: Es ist natürlich Geschmackssache so eng beisammen zu sitzen - sie könnten definitiv ein paar Tische einsparen, damit man sich "freier" bewegen kann. Dieser Kritikpunkt ist aus unserer Sicht berechtigt.

Zum Preis: Es war das teuerste Lokal, das wir in Karpathos besucht haben - aber darauf waren wir vorbereitet u. das haben wir an diesem Abend schlichtweg in Kauf genommen. Ich kann diesen Kritikpunkt nur wenig verstehen, denn wenn mir ein Lokal von Haus aus zu teuer ist, dann trink ich halt nur was u. ziehe dann weiter. Wer (Preise) lesen kann, ist klar im Vorteil. Wenn ich derart sparen muss, mir ein Abendessen nicht leisten kann/will u. jeden Cent umdrehen muss, fahr ich gar nicht erst auf Urlaub 😉
