I’ve been going to this restaurant for 30 years, since the early or mid-90s, it was always my favourite place to go out and eat. However, for the past 3-4 years, the quality and quantity has diminished spectacularly, and the prices have sky rocketed. For instance, I used to buy the Jack Daniel’s chicken very often, which was served with two rather big and very juicy chicken breasts, a very large portion of mashed potatoes, and a very very generous side of vegetables including broccoli, carrots, etc., and for that the price was normal. However, now they have stopped adding any of the vegetables, have diminished significantly the portion of mashed potatoes, have decreased the weight of the chicken which is now very plain and indifferent in taste, simultaneously with raising its price at about an astronomical 40%. Also, the steak was affordable 7-9 years ago, but it has been a phenomenal rise in its price of about 75%. Another huge example is the burger. Oh the burger… So, their burgers were great. Nice bread, juicy and high quality beef, nice and fresh vegetables inside the burger, a very good portion, nice fresh french fries on the side and a nice vegetable sider. All in good quality and quantity. Nowadays? Well, the sider is a clear goner, the french fries are the most cheap frozen french fries they could find wholesale, the same goes for the bun of the burger, the burger is a low quality beef, and a small one at that, without any flavour, truly plain and inconsequential, and all in all a tremendously disappointing dish. Obviously, its price though has skyrocketed in the neighbourhood of 40%. Now, let’s talk Potato Twisters, by far my favourite starter that I cannot even remember for how many years I have been buying it. It used to be a huge tower of hot beautiful crispy potatoes with an amazing sauce and for a decent price. Now, it’s half the height and width of the dish it used to be, it’s always being brought to your table cold, the potatoes are not crispy but either burnt or not cooked, the sauce is disappointing in its flavour and quantity, and of course it will set you back monetarily as much as a main course used to. Finally, the beer. You expect to go to a burger house, especially in Greece with all the high temperature and whatnot, and enjoy a cold beer. For the past five years, I have been telling them time and time again, please buy a new freezer because the beer your bring is room temperature. It’s not cold at all! Always, the answer was Yes we know but this is the freezer we have. Even a small restaurant has a proper freezer to be able to sell cold beer. To see such a large restaurant, that is grossing 7-digits annually not care to invest a few hundred euros to sell properly the beer they sell at twice the price that others sell it, leaves me truly speechless. Last but not least, the service. First, they don’t accept reservations. If you ring them, they say you have to come here and wait in line to find a table. If you go there and tell them why do you do this, they reply saying No, you should have made a reservation. Also, the waiters during the past few years, have shifted from a very friendly and customer centred behaviour towards a non-friendly approach that focuses to get as much customers in and out the door as quickly as possible to maximise turnover. If you don’t leave them a big tip for frankly a not good service but rather a normal tip, they will seem angry, roll their eyes and when you wish them very politely a pleasant evening they won’t even respond. Consequently, for all those reasons and after three decades of being an extremely loyal customer, a few months ago I came to the sullen realisation that I have no choice but to stop...
Read moreWe've been coming here since this Friday's opening date. It has slowly improved over the years and is now a very pleasent American-style eatery. Prices, food and service are what you'd expect, no better, no worse; check their (abominable, in my estimation) website for details. What really stands out is the shop itself: there is a very pleasant tree-covered seating area outdoors. The two indoor areas on the ground floor have huge windows, open in summer, making them very pleasant indeed. Lighting and decor indoors (especially upstairs) make it a very warm and cozy place for winter too. The street outside is pedestrians-only so it's quiet and safe for kids. Parking can be difficult, especially on weekends. There is a parking lot nearby (Google Maps shows it's at "56 Theod. Diligianni Kifisia 14562", on your left immediately after the square; I don't know the prices but it might be fairly expensive (6€/hour is typical). Personally, I'd recommend you walk here, the side streets are tree-lined and exceedingly pretty. So in short, although not cheap, this is an excellent venue for anyone: families, teenagers, kid's parties, grown-ups, as long as you can walk or cycle to here, or at least walk the 250 or so meters from where you've parked the car! Great for any season, from sun to snow. If it's holiday season or a weekend, don't forget to...
Read moreOne of the good restaurants from this well known chain of restaurants . I can say this after having visited restaurants of this chain at various countries (US, UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia) since the early 90's even before this franchise comes to Greece. Although the philosophy, decoration and the general look of this establishment is similar to the others (due to the franchise rules obviously) , the taste and the food quality is superior at this one. The staff is friendly, cosy, happy and helpful and gives a taste of the service you have at almost all the decent restaurants in the States, ...outside the States. A very good example for others to follow. Of course is expensive for the Greek standards but it offers something different in terms of the environment and the menu choices . Although reservation is not required , it would be very wise to make one, especially during weekends , peak hours and holidays, as the waiting time to be seated can reach up to an hour. Parking can also...
