Slightly hidden from view behind a small suppermarket the taverna is Situated directly on the beach. There are stunning views around the bay from most tables. We found Captain John on the second day of our holiday, the food, friendly welcome and idyllic location ensured we returned for lunch and dinner on every remaining day of our holiday. On the menu there is a good choice of traditional Greek dishes as well as Fresh Fish, Grilled and Roasted Meats, pasta and much more all with a delicous home cooked taste. If there is something in particular you want just mention it to Crysoula who will be more than happy to recommend a dish that would suit. From the moment you arrive at Captain John, Crysoula will welcome you with her warm and friendly smile. She is such a lovely person who is interested in every one of her customers. We had a conversation about an old Greek dish which is a vegetable dish cooked in the oven slowly in oil called Briam. It's traditionally eaten at home. On the final meal of our holiday Crysoula's husband had gone to work at 7am to make his own recipe of Briam so it would be ready in time for us. It was truly the best Briam I have tasted throughout Greece and the islands . Captain John also have their own area of beach with sunbeds and parasols directly infront of the taverna . These are offered free of charge to customers who have lunch and it was so relaxing to enjoy a delicous lunch then a little siesta without having to move more than a few feet in the hot sun. I would reccomend Captain John Taverna to everybody who is looking for a delicious choice of traditional food in an idyllic location on the beach and in the welcoming and friendly environment created by Crysoula. Thank you to Crysoula and her husband for your kindness, thoughtfulness and for making our holiday...
Read moreOn first sight this place seems nice and a good price. We ordered out food, no problem, food was ok,nothing amazing. Two of us had opted for small meals, two for normal.. we asked for the bill, they prefer cash. She came added it up and gave it to us.. not quite what we expected but as it's in greek we weren't too sure if it was right.. we did question it a little to which she pretended not to understand, yet spoke good English to others.... Now I'm happy to pay a good price for a good meal. I'm happy to tip. What I'm not happy about is being ripped off.. when I got back to the hotel I added it up, roughly, allowing extra incase, they over charged us by at least 10€.. not ok. Won't be returning.. happy to pay but won't be made a fool of. Be warned.....
Read moreEasily the best meal we had in Kos. Our starters were Giant beans in a tomatoe and herb sauce which was great, pumpkin fritters (again lovely) and the best fried saganacki cheese we've ever had. For mains I had silver snapper which I've never had before. It was cooked to perfection. So moist and tasty. My girlfriend had swordfish steak and it was huge and succulent. The service was amazing and very friendly. We sat on one of the tables right at the waters edge looking out to sea. You could not ask for anything better. All this food and a half litre carafe of wine came to about 55 euro which was incredible value. We just wish we had visited earlier in our holiday because we would have dined there more. Definitely...
