We ate here on our holiday to Kefalos last week and had one of the best meals of our stay...
Maria Taverna is on the main sea front road, inbetween Memory Pub and the supermarket.
We had a feeling we'd be in for a treat as a couple of the other tables were occupied by Greeks - always a good sign if they're eating there!
We ordered a couple of rounds of beers... I had Fix, some of the others had Alpha I believe, and had a look through the menu.
The food was mostly Greek with some other dishes on offer, but overall, not too much of a big menu (bravo!).
We ordered: some tatziki and Pitas (a couple proportions to share) for starters.
We ordered the following for mains: Greek meatballs (homemade I believe) which came with vegetables (good chunky vegetables, not out of a tin!), rice, AND homemade chips! The rest of the group ordered the mussels (in a tomato and herb sauce), Lambs Liver w/Onions, Vegetables, & Gravy, more Meatballs, and a Mexican Chicken (asked for Greek Oven Potatoes and no problem).
Our food took about 15 minutes, and the portions were quite big! Maybe too big!!... That being said, we have it a good go!
Everyone enjoyed there food thoroughly, the service was good, the Taverna is spacious, airy, and has great views in the day and evening onto the sea!
Our bill came to around €63 ish, as always with a good experience, we left a tip too.
Will visit again if we're back in...
Read moreThe restaurant is situated by the sea with a lovely view. Very traditional looking place with laid-back atmosphere - although some tour buses stop there and bring tourist groups for lunch.
I was told they make their own chips from their own potatoes and that the chips are really good. They table bread is also home made. They have a very interesting menu and people from my group (yes, I was in a day tour too) did say the food was very delicious and they sampled various dishes.
I had calamari with vegetables and the portion was big...
Read moreWe visited Taverna Maria on the island of Kos and we were truly delighted! The atmosphere is warm and rustic, with a real homely feel. The waiters are fast and friendly, and the food is prepared with love and care. As we stood outside, unsure whether to go in since we wanted to eat fish, some guests sitting by the window kindly invited us inside, assuring us we wouldn’t regret it – and they were absolutely right! The food was excellent and the whole experience unforgettable. Definitely a place worth...
