Probably the best food you can find in Kefalos: High-quality ingredients, generous portions, a warm atmosphere, and friendly staff. So why only one star?
We dined there twice. The first time was based on a recommendation. Despite a few minor service issues, we had a lovely dinner on our first evening in Kefalos. That experience left such a good impression that we decided to return on our final night, excited for another great meal. We made a reservation and were among the first guests to arrive. We ordered a delicious salad and two fish-based main courses. My girlfriend’s dish arrived promptly, but mine didn’t. I assumed it was just taking a bit longer, but after an hour, the waiter informed us that the kitchen had missed my order entirely.
In short, I spent the whole evening watching my girlfriend enjoy her sea bass while I sipped wine and waited in vain for my bream. Jenny, the owner, didn’t even bother to apologize personally. Instead, she sent a waiter with a piece of dessert as a gesture of compensation, which I politely declined since I hadn’t had dinner at all. When I went to pay, the waiter kindly removed the wine from the bill, and we were charged only for the salad and sea bass. I truly appreciated this goodwill. However, in the culinary world, where I’ve spent considerable time, some mistakes simply can’t be fixed with a free dessert or a discounted bill. Dinner is not just about eating; it’s a shared ritual that involves those at your table, the cooks, and the servers.
I genuinely regret giving just one star to such a lovely restaurant, but they ruined what was supposed to be a special final dinner in Kefalos. It was a huge letdown. Perhaps it was a one-time slip, so I won’t tell you to avoid the place, quite the opposite, actually. If you’re visiting Kefalos, it’s still worth trying. Just be sure to double-check your order and follow up with the staff if needed. Ideally, that shouldn’t be the customer’s responsibility, but based on my experience, it’s a modest suggestion I feel...
Read moreMy family visited the beautiful restaurant perched above Camel beach three times. It is run by Jenny, her husband and son, Harry. The views from this tastefully decorated restaurant are fantastic. It has huge windows looking out from two aspects over the Aegean. They are extremely welcoming and friendly. We wanted fresh authentic Kos cuisine and we were not disappointed. Apart from a comprehensive set menu there was a number of different specials on each occasion. Wild rabbit, goat and chicken dishes were three that we had, which were all superb and so different from other restaurants we visited (hence the return visits). The seafood spaghetti, octopus and stuffed squid off the menu are excellent. Harry, who waits on the tables, is a charming young man, who took the time to explain how the dishes were cooked and gave us his recommendations. On each occasion Jenny took the time to come out and chat to us. Her passion for cooking these fantastic dishes is obvious and she clearly puts her heart and soul into them. The food is all made freshly, and you can tell. Nothing is too much trouble. Take the time to go, I would be very surprised if you were not delighted. Thank you Jenny and family. We very much look forward to seeing you again. Richard,...
Read moreWe made a reservation because the reviews and scores on the internet were high. We ordered salad, pasta, shrimp and ouzo.
The ouzo arrived 20 minutes after the other dishes, the person who took the order really only looked at the tables every 20 minutes. We asked for napkins and water, we waited and waited and waited, finally we had to go inside and ask for them, they said “okay sit we will come”
The napkins and water came to the table at the end of 1.5 hours. The last half hour was spent waiting for the waiter to ask for the bill. When he didn't show up either, we got up to go inside and pay the bill, but we were confronted with the owner's meaningless and offensive question like "don’t you pay?" We told her "of course we will pay, there is no one looking at the service and what are you accusing us of?" We said that we would come and pay since no one was looking, that we would not accept this attitude, that the food was good but the service was terrible, that no one came despite how many times we called out, and that we even went inside to get the water and napkins ourselves.
Go there if you want to eat with...
