Terrible night eating here at this taverna!! We ate here in October and the waitress was very unfriendly, the food was okay at best. The bad evening began when we asked to close the side door which we were sitting next to as it was a chilly evening due to it being windy and as the restaurant is located on the beach front it does get cold, however we was told "No" by the waitress. The waitress, along with others working in the restaurant, which were family, were arguing, I know this because I speak greek and could understand that an argument was taking place. I do understand that running a family business can be stressful and demanding but when you've got people arguing in a supposedly relaxing setting it's not good, they obviously think that only tourists come to the restaurant to eat and drink that do not speak Greek. I was really quite astounded that as a paying customer they couldn't close a door when your sitting there eating food, terribly disappointing hospitality!! When we had nearly finished dinner, which was okay, the waitress came over and said "I will close it now", meaning the door, which is absolutely absurd!! It was only later on that we realised this was due to the fact that the restaurant had pretty much emptied out and from looking at all the other reviews it looks like they always like to close at around 10pm. At the end of our meal, when sitting there chatting, the waitress came over and said that "if you wish to pay card the card machines finishes at 10". Clearly this is not true as card machines don't simply cut off at 10pm because they want to finish for the day. We paid and left but would definitely not return!! We found this to be the worst meal out whilst in Kefalos and in Kos, we have stayed in Kos many times before for month long durations and haven't experienced this terrible customer service...

Well that is what we were told on both occasions we went here. Admittedly, the first time was our first night, and it was close to 10pm.
We decided to give it another try, this time arriving just after 8.30pm, we were sat, then there it was again!! We close at 10 pm.... our drinks arrived, the bottled Mythos barely chilled with a room temprature glass, I asked I it was possible to have a chilled/frozen glass (like every other bar and restaurant in Kefalos) & was told promptly NO!
I ordered the veal steak with pepper sauce, as the beef steak section of the menu wasn't available.
I was asked how I wanted it cooked and asked for rare to medium. Why do these places ask and then ignore your request? It came out medium at best, hidden by a generous amount of sauce.
So many reviews raved about this place, our expectations are not high, we do not dine in 4 or 5 star restaurants and love the casual and welcoming atmosphere of places like this, but quite frankly, we had much better interactions/welcomings with the staff of the local minimarkets than here.
Food indifferent (see photo of unappetising partially burnt frozen chips alongside veal steak somewhere under the pepper sauce). One positive point is that my wife's chicken fillet was cooked well and not dry, although she left the majority of the rice that she had asked for, same with salad, which strangley was the bit of my meal I enjoyed most!!
Staff, couldn't wait to clock off
Perhaps it's just the end of season fatigue...
Read moreKleftiko cooked and served the way it was thirty years ago. If you can remember delicate pieces of flavoursome knuckle of Lamb being cooked and served in a parcel of grease proof paper, then this is the place for you. We had gorgeous stuffed sweet peppers to start, stuffed with Feta cheese that is. My wife had the Kleftiko and I ordered the grilled Sardines, ( eight were on my plate with a lovely salad and some chips.) The chef offered to open the parcel of Kleftiko for my wife, which we happily agreed. Later when chatting to the chef he told us that as a child he always used to open the parcels of Kleftiko that his Father used to cook. This is why we travel to the Greek Islands for our holidays, to meet local people who are steeped in family tradition and customs, which sadly today are missing in our busy corporate lives, good on you Son/chef. We washed the meal down with a litre of local vino and half a litre of mineral water, you have to get your priorities right on holiday, all for under fifty Euro. It’s like going back in time, enjoy while you can. PS. I only thought about taking images of the place after we had consumed our food, sorry for the boring image, the food was so good you don’t get your phone out first, not at...
