Staying at the Hotel Aegean Houses we walked past Sunset Taverna half a dozen times during the day whilst walking into Kos Town and joked about the wagon wheel tables that adjoin the pavement and never really gave it a second glance. But then we walked past twice, both times in the evening and noticed that it was really busy. There were no attempts to draw us in, no menus being thrust in our faces, just waiters and staff going about their business.
So we decided to stop on Friday evening and give Sunset taverna a try, and what a good decision it was, which appears to be a reoccurring theme in our Kos, Astypalea and Greece holiday reviews this year. We were greeted promptly and shown to nice table for two, provided with menus and the table dressed in the normal way.
We opted for a bowl of creamy mussels to share to start with, and then a beautiful beef stifado in a reach tomato sauce and a t-bone steak, cooked medium rare. Great choices. The stifado was piping hot and the beef was cooked just right, and then the t-bone steak, very good. The knife glided through the meat and it simply melted in my mouth. As usual accompanied by half a litre carafe of dry white wine.
The service was impeccable. The two waiters were rushed off their feet but they glided around the restaurant with assured confidence.
We've now worked out that it's soon easy to pick a good restaurant in Greece. Don't eat at any where they're touring for business, menu in hand pavement side, look for how many tables are reserved, some have simple reserved notices on the table others use bottles of wine...it's that simple. Common sense really.
If you don't want to be disappointed it might be worth booking. It's worth it, you'll have a really good meal 😋 🍴 🍽.

The setting is so comfortable, clean , calm, and inviting. There's a beautiful water fountain in the centre of the entrance which is really nice. It's also really busy which is a good sign right and they staff do an perfect job of managing the tables ensure all are well looked after .
There's a great menu choice of local fresh food as well as your favourites from around the world. There's fresh meat and fish on offer which they bring to the table for your viewing before choosing.
Owners are really nice, as are the staff, and nothing is too much trouble.
Toilets are clean and downstairs, I didn't ask if there was one upstairs. The music is just right, not too loud and pleasant.
Food prices are very reasonable and the food is simplely delicious 😋 I had the beef in red sauce which came with chips , grill vegetables and cabbage. My partner went for the mixed vegetarian plate of local foods , all the food coming out looked amazing.
There is plenty of seating inside and out. A Google choice for single diners to a large family

Read moreMy husband and I dined here two nights ago. Lovely welcome, and the owner showed us a variety of uncooked fish and cuts of steak, he was so sure of the quality of his products, so I plumped for fillet steak with Roquefort sauce, and I know everyone says cliques like what I'm going to say.....It was one of the best Fillet steaks I have had, I truly mean this. Another big plus was the selection of carefully cooked vegetables, aubergine, carrots and asparagus, my husband had Kleftiko, and the dish was very tasty. Complimentary Sangria to finish the meal, which was another lovely touch. The bill was very reasonable for the quality of meals we received. We all definitely go back this week. Also mention for the waiter and waitress, lovely efficient staff , who gave us a...
