Taverna Cavos — Restaurant in Municipality of Kos

We (my wife and me) were roaming from Restaurant to Restaurant in Kefalos, all are good, most of them very tourist like with the same dishes again and again. One day we hit Cavos Taverna. From that day on, we went every evening there to have dinner. It is an authentic place, operated by brothers and family. Many of the ingredients of the dishes are self-made, such as olive oil, lamb, cakes, etc.. Dishes are delicious and service is very friendly, especially when they start to know you. Main recommendation is to try the plate of the day. Seafood plates are also very good. In our case the gambas were hidden under the noodles, exactly the other way around, also the seafood plate for 2 persons is of high quality and quantity. We have been to this place while searching for a traditional Greek cuisine & mezze place. First of all the high ratings here are very misleading as they are mostly given by Western tourists who are chasing the bargains and would be happy with a plate full of some random main dish and lot of chips. We have ordered lot of appetizers (mezze) and none of them were good. After a few days spent in Kos we now know that it is best to avoid any restaurant which serves “full English breakfast” and advertise it and other bargains on boards outside of the restaurant. It’s a place with excellent food, and the owners are very respectful and helpful.

I ordered the mixed fish platter and absolutely loved it. I believe they serve different ingredients each day, but everything was excellent. The pasta was also very good, with portions that were generous and satisfying. The tarama was delicious, and the wine service was equally pleasant.

At the end of the meal, I had the delicious Revani, which was large enough to serve at least five people.
