We have looked for a Greek traditional tavern and this was a great find. Everything is there, fresh and tasty food, great atmosphere, friendly people. On top of that the view and sound of crashing waves complete the eating experience 🌊👌. As a starter we had a grilled Shrimp which was super fresh and tasty. It was done perfect and tickled our appetite just right. For the main dish we had Moussaka, Gyros, Soutzoukakia and a seafood spaghetti. Mousaka was served in a clay pot, which keept the perfect temperature I til the last bite. Very tasty. Gyros plate in the first glance was a standard one, but comparing the meet and the pita from the ones I had in Poland or Germany - no comparison. Pita was the best I ever had, hands down. Soutzoukakia (Smyrna meatballs) was hard to pronounce but the friendly waiter knew right away what we want. The tomato sauce was described by my wife, as freshly pressed. Meatballs were tender and soft. All perfectly seasoned. Seafood spaghetti was packed with shrimp, octopus pieces, clams etc. You can taste freshness. Delicious! At the very end we received complimentary fresh fruit and we had a shot of Raki (traditional Greek alcohol) with our host. It was nicely chilled and pretty smooth.
I highly recommend this restaurant. If I come back to Crete, for sure I will...
Read moreWe were near at an excursion, found this Taverna Cochili at Agia Pelagia via GoogleMaps and gave it a try... And: It was a good decision! We came back 3 more times althoug our accomodation was 40km away at Hersonissos! Doesn't that say all? Taverna Cochili is a very recommendable lovely small familiary taverna located directly at the beach of Agia Pelagia with a nice view onto sea and wonderful moon uprises. The owner Vasilios is a very friendly host and his wife is an awesome cook! Everything we tried from the menu, and that was much at four visits, was very delicious - original homemade greek food! The portions are big for a very reasonable price! After dinner we always got some mixed fresh fruits and Raki for free, sometimes also some Baklava... We had four wonderful and enjoyable evenings here! Thanks again to Vasilio and his wife!!! While our visits we recognized several guest who were there every evening. Best time is about 7pm. If possible do a reservation in advance because it's a small taverna! And from 9pm on maybe Vasilio will tell you to try next evening, to give the guest who are already there the best service possible! As you're near don't miss to visit...
Read moreWhat a truly fabulous, friendly place this is. We were initially beckoned in by Vasili as we were looking at the menu and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed - a lovely setting looking out across the sea and then to be treated with an array of gorgeous dishes. We only wanted something light to eat as we weren’t very hungry & so decided on some starters. Tzatziki, whitebait, feta cheese & olives and a couple of baskets of bread. We were back 2 days later for a second helping which is when I tried the moussaka... wow that was beautiful! We had to pay Vasili & his wife a third visit before we left our week long holiday to Crete. Again the food was tremendous. The hospitality shown from this man is fantastic and he makes everyone feel welcome and treats everyone as friends - mainly trying to ply you with his own Raki. I look forward to returning for another visit in the very...
