The restaurant is located at the main road down to the town (very practical) and located on the first floor. The restaurant has parking spaces behind the restaurant and the view from the first floor (where the restaurant is located) is very good - we have been there in the evening hours. We were greeted by George himself who seemed to be a nice and funny guy and was (besides another service guy in sweatpants) taking the orders and bringing food. Besides a good first impression by the owner, the food (most important) was unfortunately a total disappointment, we had some starters (Saganaki cheese, Bread and dip - not ordered, but still invoiced and garlic pies) that tasted OK but looked very boring. As a main dish my gf had seafood pasta with overcooked shrimps from the freezer and an unidentifiable tomato sauce and I had Gyros and “Souvlaki George”. The gyros was tasting like pig (disgusting - still ate it as I was hungry) and it was clearly the worst I had on Crete (I tried many). The quality of the Souvlaki meat was not good either and I had to return half of it as it was stringy. The sides on the plate were as boring as the restaurants decoration and overcooked. As a dessert (for free, typical in Crete) we got some fruit which was not eatable as it was pickled with a somewhat parfumery flavor. The paying took an eternity (even as the restaurant was mostly empty) and we had the feeling of being willingly ignored. We gave no tip as the experience was a real disappointment. During our visit we had to kill several insects to eat in peace as they obviously feel very much at home in the tree structure of the restaurant. I can ABSOLUTELY NOT understand the...

Taverna George is a family-run business. George is in service, his wife is responsible for the excellent food and a young man (presumably his son?) sometimes helps out. During our almost 3 weeks in the area we went to George's about 5 times and if we would had been nearer, we would probably have been there every day. The dining area is covered and you have a wonderful view over Agia Pelagia. We went there initially as a group of four with our parents for dinner and later as a couple. The menu has a very large selection with many typical local dishes. Starters as well as main courses. The portions are large. And everything is super tasty. Compared to other tavernas, the quality is much better. To start with, lightly toasted bread is served with 2 dips. Then, for example, the great Greek salad, which was not prepared carelessly but was even mixed with a little apple and pomegranate seeds and finally dressed really deliciously. Other starters such as Saganaki were also very tasty. We had souvlaki, various meat dishes, some from the grill, some from the oven, swordfish and I ate lamb chops 3 times by myself (superbly grilled and hardly any fat, with some rice, chips and vegetables). For dessert there was pure raki on the house, homemade raki liqueur in various variations, sometimes homemade limoncello, homemade lemonade for the drivers (slightly sour, also super tasty) and a fruit plate with various types of fruit. George speaks German and English and his humor has a special touch. I loved it every time. For example: "Be careful, the pot is very hot. Yes, yes, hot food, George's patent."
