I don't think I have ever had a worst experience in my entire life. I asked for fresh fish and was instead told to have a white fish fillet (ok, sounds good). What i didn't know is that it was not fresh but frozen fish. Not a problem per se but I had asked specifically for the fresh fish. I was told it would come with potatoes and a salad but there was no side salad, just one sad potato wrapped in alu foil (from being roastes). But that wasn't even the problem. The waiter was friendly but the owner was so unfriendly. When we finished our meal he came and picked up the wet napkins package and ripped them open and throw them at the table at us. Without one word, never asked how the meal was, if we wanted anything else. Just this brutal throw of napkins. But it actually got worse. When we asked the waiter for the bill, he said the owner would come. He came with one of these little chests we often see in restaurants where the bill is inside. At our table without saying a word, not a smile, nothing: he opened the chest, turned it upside down and let the bill and a waterfall of candy just fall down on the table. It was the weirdest experience of my life. I had to pick of the receipt from the mess on the table to know how much to pay. Just unfriendly for no reason whatsoever. Any other Taverna on that strip will offer better service and fresh fish. Avoid...
Read moreExtremely unpleasant experience at Socrates restaurant in Agia Pelagia
I visited this restaurant on July 27, 2025, with my daughter during a vacation in Crete. Unfortunately, we were treated with complete disrespect. A waiter directed us to a table, but then reacted aggressively — physically grabbing my daughter’s hand and pushing her aside to move a chair and wipe the table. His behavior was shocking and entirely inappropriate.
We felt unsafe and deeply uncomfortable. Although we wanted to leave immediately, we hesitated due to the small size of the resort and concerns about possible repercussions. We also noticed that other customers were treated much more favorably, which made the discriminatory attitude even more evident.
I have filed official complaints both in Greece and through European Union consumer protection channels, and I strongly encourage others who experience similar treatment to do the same. Such behavior should not be tolerated in the hospitality industry.
I do not recommend this place to anyone seeking respect and genuine hospitality. I hope the management takes action and reevaluates their standards of...
Read moreJune we were staying at a local villa in Agia Pelagia with friends for 12 days and found our favourite restaurant Socrates (numerous visits were enjoyed)The staff were very welcoming and informative about the menu, the local produce and Greek history from each dish. The variety of foods on the menu caters for all taste and they are very willing to adjust to suit any preferences. The restaurant is busy, and the staff attentive it has a very relaxed atmosphere you are able to enjoy the food without feeling rushed. We enjoyed eating starters and a main and was surprised to then be served with puddings (aperitif) including fresh melon, beautiful sweet cherry’s, panacotta, and light filo pastry cakes and raki for a toast “Yamas” good health. A great restaurant with stunning views out to sea.
