Alati — Restaurant in Municipality of Malevizi

The good: nice staff, taking care nicely of my kid and family, proposing a table fast. The entrées were good (maybe a lack of salt) and the proposed wine was excellent The bad: asking about if the wine was local, I get a yes: it is written on the back of the bottle that it was produced in Italy ... I ordered a Beef T-Bone that I wanted rare ("va-et-vient" in French). I got something else: a piece of meat that looked like porc and tasted that way. I asked them to tell me what was the meat: they told me it's not porc but veal. Well, I am sure it was porc and it's ok to screw up in the kitchen, but please don't lie to my face - even if it was veal that was not what was written on the menu (e.g. could be a problem if you are a follower of a certain faith).

So terribly disappointed by the low standards of not being honest to your customer, better restaurants in Creta...

All style, no substance. The service was very poor apart from an older lady who deals with bookings - she deserves some credit. The staff look miserable and take an age to do anything - we had to clear our own plates away after our starters and didn’t even get fresh cutlery for our main! So fishy cutlery in our non fish mains… not ideal. It took 20 minutes to get our mains cleared away.. and this was only after asking for the bill because we didn’t even get offered a dessert menu. Day 5 of our holiday (ate out each night) and this was really average service compared to the other restaurants on the sea front. We were recommended Alati by a local on a beach not far from Agia Pelagia. Myself and my partner could not have been happier for following his advice, the location is amazing, ambience is beautiful. Perfect for a date night. The service is to the level of fine dining but with a personal touch and the food is also incredible. Sea food is fresh and well prepared and the meat was perfectly cooked. The portions are of a good size and the value for money is very good. Compared to the faceless tourist trap restaurants that line the beach front, Alati is truly local and authentic.
