Best Restaurant on Kastellorizo…PERIOD
First trip to Kastellorizo and counting the days until we return. Part of our love for this Island is Alexander’s. We selected this restaurant because of the already stellar reviews and it exceeded our expectations in every way. Let’s start with the obvious…the food, which is absolutely exemplary! We ordered the grilled eggplant with tomato and feta which was five star, followed with tuna carpaccio which was also five star. We then selected our fish, a freshly caught grouper, which was simply grilled and filleted at our table with a side of delicious french fries. Fish was amazing and we accompanied the meal with the single, best red wine we have experienced in Greece or Turkey. All five star and impossible to be disappointed with this food. Stayed on island two nights and both nights enjoyed dinner at Alexander’s but that is only half the story since the service exceeded the food!! Panos was our server both nights and best waiter of our trip by far and made a great dinner an unforgettable, local, embracing experience. We loved this guy and only bad part was getting to the restaurant since I am three weeks away from a full hip replacement and in constant pain while walking. The first night Panos walked us to the town square and arranged a taxis but then came the big WOW. On the second night it was too late for a cab so Panos borrowed the owner’s scooter and took two trips to get my girlfriend and me home. Yes, you read that right! I don’t have a waiter at Alexander’s but a friend and could share more but will stop here. BRAVO to the owner, chef and most of all PANOS for making our stay in Kastellorizo a warm, welcoming, “local” and unforgettable experience. John and...
Read moreWe began our meal with the Greek salad, which was fresh vegetables perfectly seasoned and topped with just the right amount of creamy feta. The calamari that followed was equally impressive: simply grilled to perfection, tender, and unmistakably fresh. Unfortunately the moussaka was less successful, its béchamel layer heavy with flour flavor and a bit undercooked, while the carpaccio arrived overpowered by lemon juice so intensely acidic that it left the seabass “cooked” by the citrus rather than in balance. The octopus, sadly, lacked any hint of freshness and fell flat on flavor. Portions overall felt generous especially the salads, calamari, and even the moussaka though the handful of octopus tentacle we received did not justify its price. Most dishes tasted fresh, earning the kitchen high marks for ingredient quality, but slight overpricing left the overall value at a solid four out of five. Service was impeccable: the staff greeted us warmly, kept wait times negligible, and maintained a spotless, welcoming dining room. All in all, we thoroughly...
Read more!!please read the whole text!! atmosphere and food was nice. you can eat your food with a great seaside view of sunset. but it has huge drawbacks.
first, we had a battered and fried FLY in our squid. that means the kitchen was’t clean.
second, while we were paying our shares of the check, we tried to understand the writings on the bill and the waiter said that there are lots of people behind us so we had to hurry. in conclusion, it turns out that they wrote an extra alcoholic drink on our table. we understood that in a very hard way because i don’t think the staff is able to communicate properly. also we had a time limit which i think took lots of joy out of our dinner.
overall, i don’t think i’ll be back in this restaurant and i won’t recommend it. i think next time, i’m going to try...
