Ok food, but a really obnoxious waiter who really ruined the experience for us :/ The waiter was just too much — too loud, too artificially friendly, too many unfunny jokes, too much physical contact, and so on... It also felt like he wanted to upsell everything, and you could tell that he was just being overly friendly (in a really excessive way). He also really can't read people. We obviously just wanted to pay and leave, but he kept pushing more raki on us and making unfunny jokes ("Don't worry, I'm friends with the police chief", and so on). He also tried to push us to give a five star review - what irony (I think that's why this restaurant is so highly rated) If you want to enjoy a relaxed dinner, don't go here! If you like loud, exaggerated people, this might be the perfect place for you... One person in our group felt so uncomfortable that we had to persuade them not to go home early. There was nothing wrong with the food to be fair.

A restaurant which presents very well but sadly our experience did not match this. After forgetting my daughter's drink, the meal which she was subsequently presented, a meat grill, it was largely an inedible pile of rubber. Unfortunately it seems she was not the only one in the restaurant to make this error. While the fish and pasta dishes the others in our party ordered was fine, the sides of potatoes and salad were also extremely dissapoining, instead delivering a plate of fries and some lettuce. We were advised the dish in question was deducted from the bill. However as we never saw the bill we can't be sure. This restaurant is in no way represtative of the high standards presented elsewhere in the village.

Best Food, Best Atmosphere, Best Service, that we encountered on our weeks holiday in Crete. A special thanks to Angelino and Milli for looking after us. Food and location fantastic, with a great view over a small beach/harbour, everything that the soul is looking for at the end of a day. Milli mixes great cocktails and Angelino is the best restaurants manager ever catering for every wish that a guest could have. We chose Greek lobster with pasta with our main course being accompanied by Idylle rose wine from the island. Orange cake rounded off the meal Don’t miss this one! Oh and make sure you reserve your table at least 30 mins before sunset!

Angelo is the best!!! Absolutely! Life-Changing. Soul-Altering. A Transcendental Experience.

Okay. Where do I even begin? Words feel wildly inadequate to capture the emotional rollercoaster I just went through. Five stars? Try five galaxies. This wasn’t just a product/service/experience—it was a rebirth. I am a changed person. Nay, a better person. I’m not sure who I was before this, and frankly, I don’t want to know her. She’s gone. Dead to me. I have been transformed, enlightened, and aggressively cuddled by the warmth of pure, unfiltered greatness.

From the moment it began, I felt the tingle of destiny. I laughed. I cried. I ascended. Angels wept. The clouds parted. Somewhere, in the distance, a bald eagle screamed the national anthem while holding a sparkler. I kid you not—my plants started growing faster. My skin cleared. My GPA went up. My ex texted me back just to apologize.

You think I’m exaggerating? No, honey. I’m underplaying. This is the kind of experience you tell your grandchildren about. This is the kind of review that deserves a Netflix documentary. I want to write it into my will. I want to get it tattooed on my ribcage in cursive script.

If you’re hesitating, let me stop you right there. Buy it. Do it. Go. Now. Don’t walk—cartwheel. Do a full dramatic slow-motion run like you’re in a romantic movie montage. Grab it and clutch it like you’re holding your one true love.

In conclusion, if this were a religion, I’d convert. If this were a cult, hand me the Kool-Aid. 11/10. Would scream into the void...

During my recent visit to Crete, I had the pleasure of dining at Aykupa, and the experience exceeded expectations in every way. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality that set the tone for an exceptional evening.

The ambiance at Aykupa strikes a perfect balance between relaxed and refined. The outdoor seating area, framed by local flora and the subtle sounds of the island, created an ideal backdrop for the meal.

The menu showcased a thoughtful curation of traditional Cretan dishes with modern execution. We started with a selection of meze that included fresh dakos, grilled local cheese, and perfectly seasoned fava – each dish bursting with authentic flavor. The mains were equally impressive. The lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender and infused with local herbs, while the fresh seafood was expertly prepared, highlighting the quality of the ingredients.

What truly elevated the evening was the service. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about both the menu and the island’s culinary traditions, and genuinely proud of what they were serving. Their passion came through in every course.

Aykupa is more than just a place to eat – it is a celebration of Cretan culture, flavors, and hospitality. I would return without hesitation and highly recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy an unforgettable dining...
