Maria's Restaurant — Restaurant in Municipality of Nafplio

I have visited that restaurant on several occasions over the course of a couple of years with large parties consisting of a rather international group from different countries. Despite our varied origins and tastes, all of us were left favorably impressed by both the quality and flavor of all of the dishes we tried. Over the course of that many visits, and with our habit of occasionally sampling some of each other's orders, we've probably had everything offered on the menu with the exception of some of the seasonal specials available while we were not there. Given this, I feel that I can also speak to the consistency of the restaurant and say that it was always at the same high level on every visit. That consistency also extends to the service which was exceptional, even compared to others in the area which were quite good. As an example, on one particular visit, our waiter remembered that on a previous night one of the members of our party had a nut allergy and made certain that nothing ordered by us on that night contained anything potentially dangerous to her. As another example, I spoke with a man there whom I learned later was the owner. We had another member of our party who remained at the hotel but wished for us to return some food to him. Despite the fact that we were dining late and would likely need the order after the kitchen had closed, he reassured me that, no matter what time we chose to leave, he would prepare for us whatever we wished for takeaway. Indeed, true to his word, he had everything we wished prepared for us so that we could dine-in as late as we liked and still take an order back with us to the hotel. We have never had such an accommodating dining experience anywhere else here.

This establishment is worth visiting for the ambience alone but, fortunately, the quality of the cuisine actually matches the exceptional setting. I also learned that the seafood offered at this restaurant is fished from the waters not far beyond the tables from where we dined and, having tasted it on many occasions, it's apparent in the freshness. While touring the area, my husband and I were taken to Maria's Restaurant for lunch. We were given seats overlooking the water which we enjoyed very much. Water and bread was brought to the table without our ordering them. We declined the water and ordered two soft drinks to be brought with our meals. I ordered the ravioli with ricotta cheese and spinach which was delightful and my husband ordered the chicken parmesan which was also very good, but different from the typical chicken parmesan we're used to eating. When we received the check, we noticed we had been billed for the water which he later took off the check since we declined it. We were also billed for the bread which we didn't ask for and only took a couple of pieces. Had we known we were paying extra for it, we would have declined it also. They call it a cover charge. It left a bad taste in my mouth because I feel it's very deceptive. They should be upfront and honest letting you know beforehand that there's a charge for the bread and water. We ate in Maria's a couple of nights ago.

We ordered only three main dishes because we were in a hurry.

First dish was pasta with bacon and chicken which was an ok portion but pretty expensive . The taste was ok but not according to the price (13.5€).

Second dish was the beef burger (no bun) with fries which was tasty but not tender enough. I have eaten much better burgers in cheaper places. The fries were home made but in my opinion they had to be cooked for two to three more minutes.

Third and final dish was mushroom risotto. This was the tastier of all but again overpriced.

The wine was pretty good. The service was quick but some of the older gentlemen were serving the plates and they were holding in their hand the electronic cigarette.

The view from the outside place we were sitting was very good.

All in all, the experience is one that I will not remember for sure. Tourists from abroad may...
