BACO — Restaurant in Municipality of Naxos and the Lesser Cyclades

I visited this bar/ restaurant today. It has a very nice setting with views to the sea. We ordered drinks and food. The drinks were good and very creative but I was very let down.by the food which is the reason for the negative review.

I ordered the shrimp tacos. What arrived to my table was a tray containing the ingredients of the tacos and a separate pouch for the tortillas. I asked the waiter if that was really my dish and he said they bring out the tacos in this way to make sure they stay hot. WHAT!!

I was charged 18€ for the tacos which is double the going rate for tacos in Greece. I understand there is a premium when dining in a well-known bar on a famous island in the Cyclades with a view to the sea, but equally for the business-owner, there is a standard of service they have to upkeep in order to call themselves premium. I ordered tacos and instead I got given bowls of ingredients to make my own tacos!

It comes across as pretentious and sadly spoiled my opinion of the bar/restaurant.

To make it clear though, the food and drinks were of good quality, it was just the level of service that...

I really wanted to like this place, but the food was very disappointing.

The poached eggs on my avocado toast were definitely not poached – the yolks were completely overcooked, and both eggs were placed on top of the toast without being drained, leaving everything swimming in water.

The avocado itself was very sour and bitter, almost inedible.

The smoothies tasted like plain water with just a hint of fruit flavor – definitely not what you’d expect.

Even a simple iced chocolate was watery, more like cocoa powder mixed in water than a proper drink.

Overall, it feels like they don’t really know how to prepare even basic breakfast dishes or drinks.

On top of that, the price-to-quality ratio is completely off. We paid €33 for two avocado toasts, one smoothie, and one iced chocolate. Considering the portion sizes and the taste, it simply isn’t worth it.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this...

I fully acknowledge that visiting a country such as Greece, one should not go to a “Mexican style” place. We wandered in, and because of the nice decor, stayed for the meal. This was a disappointment. I will say the drinks are good! Unique and tasty. I highly recommend simply getting a nice cocktail and passing on the food. The food was terrible. The “nachos” were made with Doritos. The burger had the equivalent of cheese whiz. The burrito was essentially bland chicken, more cheese whiz, wrapped in a tortilla. Worst meal of our trip, really the only place we haven’t thoroughly enjoyed. It was very expensive as well, not worth the money. Go anywhere else in Hora for a much better...
