First, the good: we enjoyed the outdoor tables right on the water, though they warned us it'd be a little windy and they were right. The service was friendly and patient. The main dishes we had were pretty good; I especially enjoyed the goat with gnocchi. It was oh-so-goaty. The local spinach-like green that came with the decent grilled squid was delicious. On the negative side, while the main dishes on the menu were mostly in the 18-25 euro range, this is the kind of place that gets you through other means. Two bottles of San Pellegrino: 14 euros. A little basket of bread with a little bit of a taramasalata-style dip, which they delivered without our asking -- 2 euros per person, 4 x 2 = 8 euros. The waiter said that the bread was homemade, but I found it mediocre, like soft, dark supermarket bread -- but that might just be my own taste in bread. One of us asked for a glass of red wine and went with whatever the waiter was recommending -- a glass that cost 12 euros. It was good, but so were the 3 - 6 euro glasses of red we got at other restaurants in Naxos. If these practices and prices don't bother you, then you should enjoy this place because as I said the dishes we had were all pretty good, and the...
Read moreThe worst experience in Naxos. We had ordered a dorada fish of the day and we have received a bill for only that fish for over 100 euro. Before coming to the restaurant we have checked menu in the internet and there was a price: 17 euro for fish of the day, and after receiving the bill I told that to the waiter, than he told me those prices in the internet are from 5 years ago and "this is the fish price in Greece, what do you want?", very rude. When we have ordered a fish of the day, they didn't told us how heavy it is, what is the price, nothing what could call my attention that it will be so expensive. I have assumed that price from internet menu are relevant for we have ordered as I have asked waiter in the entrance about fish of the day. Fish was grilled, good one, but we have eaten two better fishes of the day in other restaurants in previous days and they have cost around 15-25 euro each, not 120 euro! Service in general was very chaotic, everyone are running around, two waitress talking to you at once etc. It is not a calm place. View is excellent, that is all. They have charged 4 euro for bread that we haven' even touch. One week after I am still angry that I have paid so much for dinner...
Read moreA real surprise in Naxos Harbor.
When you are at a the tourist spot like Naxos Harbor your expectation are are usually not very high and when you find an Italian Restaurant ... BUT it was the best restaurant we found in Naxos. Incredible food quality, a touch of real Haute Cuisine. As starter Italian antipasti vegetables such fresh and full of tasty flavours with a smoked burrata. Then we had some carbonara (without the Italian bacon because we are vegetarian) which was made with high class pecorino and Szechuan Pepper which is usually a tricky product due to its strength but was in a perfect harmony and added an interesting flavour of citron to the pasta. In addition the other dish was (handmade) gnocchi with a sauce of salmon, ginger, citron and fresh parsley and I did use some bread to clean the marvellous sauce ;) from the plate. The recommended wine (White from Santorin) was an excellent choice. It was a pleasure to be served by a friendly and (Understandably ;) proud...
