Read moreHave lived in Greece before and visited many Greek islands ... and this is definitely one of the greatest of them all. We visited the island End July - beginning of August so it’s a peak season and yes it can get busy ! Anyway we booked for 10 days not sure what to expect. But the time fly by so quickly. Firstly, the beaches are fantastic. Truly ‘crystal clear’ water - you don’t need to book a hotel with swimming pool - just head to ocean nearby! Secondly, you have a choice - you can choose lively beach, windy beach ( for wind surfing etc), quiet beach, local beach, secluded beach... you name it. My husband from rural England does not like Agios Prokopios beach as it’s too many people on beach. Hop on the bus and went to Plaka beach - GREAT! Quieter and nicer ( in his opinion) . Thirdly, you get to see other part of island relatively easy. Want authentic seafood and little local beach ? Hire a car and head to East coast. Freshest seafood and again, crystal clear water - but not many tourists ( lots of locals with family ). Along the way, you will pass some of the Greek villages and numerous churches. The drive can get bit tricky but the view was staggeringly beautiful. Been to Santorini before but the view from the top of the mountain cannot be compared to this - needless to say much less tourists !! I should actually stop writing this now so that Náxos won’t be overloaded with tourists like Mykonos or Santorini. But this beautiful island deserve to be rated full...

I told him how we enjoy the island, and asked what he was growing. he said potatoes. and I asked where do your potatoes go and he said Ireland! I thought Ireland grew their own potatoes, so for the month I went around to each of the farmers, they all said Ireland. I thought Ireland grew their own, but where Jerry and I were "camping out at night, we say during the day, the ocean freighters loading up the suds. It was so peaceful there. then when we got on a small boat to return to Athens and back to The Hague where I had an accounting job waiting. this boat had 20 people on it, with no roof so all of us could see each other. I saw this American looking guy starring at me 15 foot away. Then after 20 minutes he comes over to me and says, "Hi Helen I thought it was you" i was stunned and did not recognize him. He said, Helen you lived 5 houses down the street In Shaker Heights, I remember when you were learning on your roller skates and fell down and I picked you up and got a band-aids since you did not want to bother your mother. WHAT A SMALL WORLD. and a few other surprises on my flights In AMERICAN and International flights over...
