Big let down . . . ! Located in the small old streets of Hora, this tavern looks to be there for decades.
Attracted by this good looking, we decided to have our dinner there.
Firstly, the welcome was as the weather that day, a bit cold. (reading the other reviews, it looks like the weather is pretty cold everyday...)
Secondly, we've been waiting about 10 minutes before to get the menu; the staff obviouly has better things to do than take care the customers they've already catch and brought inside. The target for them seems to be now to catch some more guests from the pedetrian small street.
So, we decided to order some drinks first in the case we would have to wait for the food as well.
On the menu sparkling water and wine are proposed as 1L or 500ml bottle and carafe. We ordered Half liter of each. A few minutes later on, a small 33cl of water came, and about the wine, instead a small carafe, we just got a (full but small) glass...Hum hum.
Not a big deal, but good enough to arouse a minimum of suspicion from the first 15 minutes in this place.
Fortunately, our first dish arrived and It was really good, good stuff in a tasty tomato sauce, we feel better.
Unfortunately, not for long, the next 2 dishes came surprisingly quickly. The stuffed calamari was very strong and the lamb cooked too much, wad really dry: let's say, a disaster.
Finaly, and on the other hand,we got complimentary sweets with the bill, which was neither expensive nor cheap.
Last but not least: considering tables are very (I MEAN VERY) close to each other in this very tiny area, it’s a pity they let people smoking in the restaurant.
A place like this with that such of potential should be much much better than that about service and food !
So I can not recommend....

We were looking for an authentic Greek Taverna in Naxos, and happened upon Metaxi Mas. We felt the authenticity, noticed the prices were very fair, so we gave it a shot.
We were seated at 8:40pm and were not spoken to until 9:10pm. This was after numerous attempts at asking to order. We were continuously met with responses like "I am not your server". We ordered the Pastaccio to share and it was very delicious. By 9:40pm, I had my dish (Veal Chop), but my wife did not. She eventually received her Risotto roughly ten minutes later, which by that time, my dish had turned cold.
We had kept a close eye on the tables around us, wondering if this was the same experience others were having, and it certainly seemed like the norm. Funny enough, most Greek speakers had no issues. We went as far as warning people who were waiting for new tables about the service and about the wait. It's clear this business needs to address this issue, especially knowing how busy high season can get.
You'll get delicious and authentic food at Metaxi Mas, there's no doubt. Just be prepared to wait an inordinate amount of...
Read moreI ordered pasta with tomato sauce and the portion I received was surprisingly very small, compared to the rest of the plates that came. I finished it with just 5 spoonfuls. When the waiter asked in the end “Was everything ok?”, I responded “The food was ok, just the portion of my pasta was very small, as if from the kid’s menu”. The waiter responded seriously and a bit offended “It doesn’t matter. Nostalgia is what matters.” took the plates and left us speechless. Well, not really when you pay that amount of money for a food quality that is just ok and a terrible service like this… The rest of the plates (Stuffed vegetables, Kalogeros, Ntakos) had decent portions, the quality of the food was ok (No oil in the Ntako and minimum xinomizythra on top were a minus) but could be better, the atmosphere is good but can get a bit crowded during peak dining hours. Overall, the service is unacceptable, the food quality leaves a few things to be desired but is adequate and the atmosphere is a plus when the streets are...
