Vassilis Tavern — Restaurant in Municipality of Naxos and the Lesser Cyclades

Went there ~30 minutes ago. Ordered the Rabbit Stew. I found a human hair in the meat (look at the photo, under the fork, in front of the bottle), when I notified the waiter about the issue he replied, word for word: “Why didn’t you tell me sooner? I would’ve brought you another” as if it was my fault! I hadn’t seen him since receiving the food (and I couldn’t possibly have discovered the hair as soon as he placed the plate on the table) nor could I wait for him to come and then another 20’ while my company had already finished their food, for him to bring me another plate. I just didn’t eat that part. What’s more frustrating about the whole incident is the fact that not once did he apologize! Not one simple “sorry”. Even if we could somehow get past that, the potatoes were definately not fresh and probably bought from the cheapest distributer in Naxos. In a similar fashion, the squid was also quite bad. I would even go as far as to say that the whole place is a scam, charging 17€ for a terrible squid dish that is served with aweful potatoes, some lettuce and a piece of tomato. Even the plates themselves looked and felt dirt cheap!

That’s not even all! They were charging 1€ for the 0,5L water bottle. In Greece it is illegal to sell a 500mL bottle of water for more than 0.50€.

Definitely a tourist trap. Don’t know how they got...

We found this restaurant by chance wandering in old Naxos labyrinth. As we travelled to many greek islands we have experienced dozens of different restaurant and this is definitely one that will not be forgotten. We have had cheese saganaki (to die for), aubergine salad, stuffed vine leaves with a very special lemon dressing and mixed fish souvlaki. Loved all the food but the moussaka. Not that they created a bad dish, but I don't think I'm an eggplant and potatoes type of person. The location where we sat was in the labyrinth so we had a few folks walk passed us. Also, this restaurant might be single handedly helping to lower covid. The outside sanitizer pumps on the tables were being used by every person walking by and not eating. Felt a little cleaner, but I'm sure the owners...
