Our first visit to Paxos Island has been highly anticipated, as it is known to be one of the most picturesque islands in Greece. Yesterday, we received a recommendation to dine at Taverna Vasilis in Gaios, situated in the heart of the village. The taverna offers ample outdoor seating with tables lining the narrow streets surrounding the area.
Arriving in the late afternoon when the temperatures were scorching hot, we were the only guests at the taverna. Despite the heat, we decided to dine due to a long day of traveling and lack of food. The service was satisfactory, the place was clean and well-organized. However, when it came to the food, our experience was disappointing.
None of the dishes stood out to us, despite being a group of four adults and one child who were hungry. The French fries had an unusual texture, lacking the expected crispiness. The dips, including tzatziki and white tarama, seemed commercial rather than homemade. Even favorites like grilled fish and risotto fell short, with bland flavors and excessive creaminess and saltiness, respectively. The salad was topped with jarred pesto, further adding to our dissatisfaction.
In the end, we found ourselves leaving behind a table full of uneaten food, a rarity for a group of hungry individuals. The fried calamari servings were notably small, and overall, our experience at Taverna Vasilis felt more geared towards tourists than providing a satisfying...

Whats bad - the waitress seemed to be annoyed by our questions and generaly by us. It felt like we did something wrong that we are eating here :)
Also they added second bottle of water to the bill and bread (which we did not ask, they did not ask, we did not eat). I only noticed caused I asked for double cappuccino, they brought normal and I checked whether they included normal in the bill.
And (maybe I do not know some Corfu tradition) the WC (at least men) did not have a lock - this we noticed in...

It's the end of the season so there's quite a few things off the menu. I understand why, and it's not just this place, but it's also a little frustrating when you already have limited options. Always lots of cheese or dip and bread options but there was one veggie/dairy free and it was off. Same for beer, only a couple of options on.
The food was great though, it's just end of September it's a bit hit or miss.
They brought out dessert for two at the end which was nice, but I'd already talked to the waitress about not eating dairy so it felt odd she brought out two big very...
