Anchors Aweigh for Flavors, but Beware the Plastic Seas at Pirate Deli
Ahoy, coffee lovers! Let's set sail on a caffeinated journey through the Pirate Deli, a takeaway-focused breakfast spot that leaves its patrons saying "Shiver me timbers" with delight.
It seems the Pirate Deli has commandeered a vessel from the expansive ocean of breakfast joints and steered it into its unique harbor. Armed with their trusty squid logo, the crew serves up a broadside of mouth-watering delights that can give even the most hardened sea dog a satisfying start to the day.
The Pirate Deli's menu is a treasure chest full of flavorsome offerings. Their food, a hearty bounty of breakfast favorites, is every bit as good as the rumors suggest. Their drinks, particularly the coffee, deserve a salute of their own. As a coffee connoisseur, I raise my tricorn hat to the "Greek coffee" which is as dark and mysterious as the depths of the sea, yet as invigorating as a fresh sea breeze. However, there is a rogue wave threatening to capsize this otherwise impressive vessel - the use of disposable plastic. Yes, me hearties, even though they've named their cafe in homage to the sea, they're creating a plastic one faster than you can say 'Davey Jones's Locker'.
Ironically, their logo is a squid, a critter that'd probably ink itself in alarm at the sight of all the plastic wrapping around its home. I found myself chuckling that if the sea is the Pirate Deli's lover, they're not exactly showing it with their choice of packaging. It's like giving your sweetheart a box of chocolates, only to find out they're allergic to cocoa - a sweet gesture, but with a bitter aftertaste. In all seriousness though, it's high time the Pirate Deli rethinks their packaging strategy. There are many biodegradable and ocean-friendly alternatives available these days.
In conclusion, the Pirate Deli is a gem of a place that serves up exceptional breakfast grub and coffee that'll have you ready to swashbuckle through your day. If they can steer their ship towards more sustainable packaging, they'll truly be a beacon in the foggy morning of breakfast spots. Until then, let's hope they love the sea enough to keep it clean, or else they might find their squid logo...
Read moreSmall, charming place, with good coffee, delicious bougatsa and some other local sweets (we didn't ask for a name of them, but we've tried one of them and it was just perfect, take anything, you won't regret it). You'll see a lot of locals there, it is really crowded, especially during the weekends, the whole families are there, with little kids. There are just few tables outside, but you can stand or sit anywhere around the place, on the steps and garden walls of the buildings nearby. Anyway, all the drinks are served in the paper cups, no matter if you stay or take it away. That's actually the only thing I didn't like, but it still didn't spoiled much the whole impression. Although I would be happy to get some real glass or cup nex time....
Read moreWhat a disappointment. I think that the reviews are fake and misleading. We just bought a pistachio and a cream pastry. The one with pistachio was filled with an atomic green paste, very sweet, and had no flavor. The one with cream was so sweet that after 2-3 bites, you can put it in the garbage and forget that you had to eat something like this. For the prices that they have, I feel that it is a complete scam. I noticed that a lot of the top-rated places in Rethymno are like this lately. I think the business should be more honest with what they offer, or describe their products...
