Save your time, money and energy and go elsewhere.
The restaurant looks beautiful and one would think that the place is ideal for a nice calm evening. No, unless you want your holidays spoiled go elsewhere. There is so many beautiful tavernas in Rethymno with just amazing service, this is not one of them.
We ordered a jar of house wine. I expected that we would be offered a little bit to try first as it is common in other places serving their wine but we weren't. We didn't like it as it had really particular aroma and asked the waitress to change it, she said it was no problem. We were sitting there for like a half an hour until it turned out that there was no other wine. Rather than saying "sorry, I've misunderstood", the waitress came with a bill and charged us more than was the original price of the jar, arguing that since we didn't drink the whole jar, we had to pay for 2 glasses which costed more than the full jar (notwithstanding the fact that we barely sipped some of the wine).
As if this wasn't enough, the waitress literally shouted at us across the street when we walked away saying that it was not normal to go for a wine and one plate (to accompany the wine) to a restaurant/taverna - somehow forgetting that apart from us, there was only one table (out of cca 15 tables) taken...
We were told that we apparently didn't have enough money to pay for the wine... I was surprised to hear that from a waitress in an almost empty restaurant.
So unless you wanna be shouted at, offended and completely disgusted by the service, go to another taverna nearby and enjoy the rest of...
Read moreI regret to say that our visit to AKRI in Rethymno was nothing short of a disaster. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that the owners were more interested in emptying our wallets than providing a satisfactory dining experience.
The food was downright appalling. The meat and rice were so old that they should have come with a "proceed with caution" sign. It was as if they were serving leftovers from three days ago, reheated and disguised as a meal. And don't even get me started on the so-called "local foods" they were offering. I wouldn't even consider feeding those dishes to my worst enemy, let alone pigs.
The entire experience was beyond disappointing; it was genuinely revolting. It's almost as if the establishment's mission was to shock and repulse their customers. It's hard to believe that anyone would willingly serve such subpar fare and expect customers to pay for it.
To make matters worse, the suspicion that they are buying reviews became glaringly obvious. It's baffling how a place like this could manage to secure any positive feedback, unless they're paying for it.
My advice? Steer clear of AKRI in Rethymno unless you're a fan of stale, unappetizing food and an all-around terrible dining experience. This place serves as a stark reminder that not all establishments are interested in delivering quality, and unfortunately, AKRI falls squarely into...
Read moreCompetition for getting guests at a table in Rethymno is very high stakes, supply far outweighs demand. Came to this place after looking for an outdoor setting with atmosphere and then the Google review rating won me over.
The garden is nicely done and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. In all fairness though, of all the meals we‘ve eaten in Crete over the past 2 weeks, this certainly falls within the range of mediocre to average, it doesn’t deserve a 4.5.
The quality of the food is just not there. What you see in the menu is not necessarily what you get and for e.g. our ice cream hadn’t quite fully transitioned from powder to milk form. I rate all Greek restaurants quality of food starting from the humble, homely Greek favourite: the Moussaka. It was ok, and that was our dining experience, exactly that.
It’s important that overrated restaurants such as this one are either brought up to that level, or their competitors are let shine above. On our 1 night in Rethymno, whilst walking through the alleyways after our meal, we came to the conclusion we would’ve definitely chosen somewhere else to eat, albeit with...
