Where do we begin, had high hopes for this restaurant and ultimately poor service and a lack of staff let this place down in our review.
The positives were that this is what a proper restaurant looks and feels like, no hassling people in the door and not begging for custom, unlike the tourist traps along the marina. We were very lucky to get a table without a reservation outside along the back street with perfect people watching views.
The staff were really friendly and showed us the menus and gave us plenty of time to look and decide. Once we had made our decision we ordered the 500ml medium-sweet wine which arrived chilled, for starters we ordered the Cretan Gruyère Cheese Saganaki which was a local cheese battered served with a tomato jam ginger and lime sauce, we shared this.
For our main dishes we ordered the Lamb Tsigariasto and the Grilled Pork Steak (XL). There was a good gap between starters arriving and the main dishes arriving. The food was really tasty and full of flavour. Unfortunately after we had finished our food, this is where things went downhill.
Our plates were left on our table after we had finished for over 25 minute’s, however, there was a power cut while we were waiting for our plates to be cleared and their systems may have gone down during this period.
It’s also worth noting that service did slow down once it got busier here, a similar theme appeared where waiters didn’t come over and ask if our meal was okay and if we wanted a dessert.
I eventually managed to flag a waiter down and ask if our plates could be cleared and if possible could I order a Cappuccino Freddo. The waiter cleared our plates and brought me the drink, where I then asked for the bill once my coffee had arrived.
The food and initial service was really good, however the length of time in waiting for our table to be cleared coupled with the lack of service at our table is why we’re rating our experience a 3 instead of what would be...
Read moreThe store is located in the historical alleys of Rethymnos City. Visiting it you will have the chance to eat on the alleys or in the cozy decorated restaurant area. Also you will have a warning welcome from restaurant employees. Until this point everything is ok. Service was not proper.
You pay for a wine 5 times its price and they didn't even bring you a box with ice. Dishes didn't come in the proper order. Some of the mains came early and some took one hour. Some starters came after the main dishes.
As for the taste part. Personally I get a burger which has a medium rare beef inside. I like it personally but no one asked me for this. Other dishes with white sauce had the taste of water. Assuming because of dilution.
All in all I wouldn't recommend it but I hope they become better in future because they have...
Read moreIt's an excellent restaurant. I highly recommend this place. In a beautiful setting right next to a beautiful old church. The staff are so nice here. Kind, attentive, and very friendly. However, the food is the star. It's incredibly high standard. It's delicious and just a bit different. The bread is baked in the house, fresh and crusty 😋. We had slow roast pork belly in carrot jam with toasted hazelnuts served with crushed baby baked potatoes. The pork was soft tender and so succulent. We also had mixed mushroom risotto with black truffle and parmesan. A taste explosion. Divine. All washed down with a nice red housewine. We were also kindly given raki and chocolate cake on the house. All for under 30 euro. Very good value for central Rethymno. Go, you will have a fantastic meal and a...
