This is a would be italian pizzeria but every pizza, also the simplest one, is messed with stuff never ever seen on the original recipe. Said that I have to say that the pizza is not bad at all and ingredients are fairly good. Wine list is pretty limited but one can find some more than decent bottle. Service is a little messed, there were less than half of the tables with customers, but this is something common in greek restaurants mostly due to lack of management skills, anyways waiters were gentle and kind. In the end, this is nice place to go if one is looking for something different from the usual greek taverna and have a decent meal.
My note on the average 3 * : there are far too many restaurants ranking 4 or 5 * for no reasons but the lack of taste and knowledge of the average customers. Without being mean I just write fair reviews, to be a full 5 *, whatever is the restaurant category, both property, kitchen and staff have to be committed in the e effort to excellence and not just being average. Without fair rating and 80% of restaurants falling in the 4 to 5 * every guide loses its value and people aren't able to make a fair choice mislead by the...
Read moreDuring our vacation in Crete, we decided to treat ourselves to an authentic Italian pizza and chose Peperoncino. This decision was absolutely rewarding. The restaurant, centrally located, stands out with its inviting ambiance. Fortunately, due to the off-season, it wasn't crowded, and we were able to pick a seat of our choice at 7:00 PM without any issues.
We ordered two different pizzas: The Tartufo and the Marinara. Both were exquisite and impressed with their freshness and taste, surely thanks to the stone oven they were prepared in. For drinks, we opted for a non-alcoholic beer and an Aperol Spritz. The latter deserves a special mention as it was rich in flavor and wasn’t overly diluted with ice – another mark of quality from this establishment.
The friendly service was also noteworthy, adding to the culinary experience. Despite its central location, the prices are moderate, which isn’t a given in this area.
All in all, our visit to Peperoncino was a complete success, and we wholeheartedly recommend it. If you're in Crete and looking for an outstanding Italian pizza, this place is...
Read moreVery impressed with Peperoncino yesterday. We wanted some Italian food after wanting a break from the Greek dishes we have been eating our whole holiday so far.
The food was fantastic, and all of the dishes to other tables that we saw looked amazing too. The prices were reasonable, around the same as other restaurants across Rethimno.
The restaurant has a nice ambience and is decorated beautifully.
The service is good and we did not wait long for drinks or food.
There is still a free dessert at the end of your meal, some chocolate cake which was nice and seems to be customary in Greece.
What also pleased me was the fact that we didn't have to wait years for the bill and to pay like you do in lots of restaurants here in Greece. Once you ask, they are prompt, without you feeling rushed.
Would love to return although we are leaving Rethimno today, so perhaps on a future holiday we...
